Driving from Las Vegas to LA

Is this do-able? Has anyone done this? I will be spending some time in LA and San Fran and I thought that I would start in LV.

Also, do I need a car in LV?

If your driving from LV to LA, Yes, you do need a car to leave LV from?????Years ago you could drive it in about 6 hours. Think you now have to slow down some.

If you are just staying in LV-you do not need a car.We rent one for a day for getting away from the casinos and out into the desert.Otherwise cars are not needed and the traffic is pretty awful around the strip.

Definitely doable, done all the time! When are you leaving LV for LA? If it's any day but Sunday, then you'll be fine. Takes about 4 hours, maybe faster if you speed or don't stop or slower if you check out the outlets. If you are driving on a Sunday, BEWARE! There is a ton of traffic on that itty bitty 15 freeway. It can take anywhere from 6-10 hours with all of the Angelenos going home after a weekend in Sin City.

I have driven it many times and it takes around six hours. On Sundays add time for the traffic.

You can live without a car in Vegas.

We did this trip last year and you can definately do this easily. If I remember correctly it took us about 5 leisurly hours. Just make sure you fill up with gas before leaving LV as you will not be passing too many gas stations. The scenery is very interesting on route.

Interesting in that there isn't any? Actually, when I lived in LA my boss had a house in Vegas and he would drive there every weekend. He swore to me that it was a beautiful drive in the spring when the desert flowers were in bloom. I wouldn't know because we usually made the drive starting from LA at 5am to beat traffic.

I've never seen Native give any helpful advice. Wish he would buzz off.

You may consider flying and then renting a car in LA - the flights are usually very cheap. I would definately consider this if you will be driving sunday which, as said above, is a very busy time.
