Driving from Islamorada to Shark Valley

I am planning my honeymoon for November, and was wondering if anyone could tell me how long it would take to drive from Islamorada to Shark Valley. Also, what is the best route to take (I don't find paying tolls). Plus, has anyone been on the tram tour at Shark Valley - what is it like?

Islamorada to Shark Valley will take a while - Maybe 3 or 4 hours. Take the Florida turnpike to Tamiami Trail (SW 8th in Miami) and go west 25 miles. Why the interest in Shark Valley? You'll be passing the Florida City entrance to the Everglades. It's a great place to experience the Everglades and is about an hour from Islamorada.

My husband says I drive too slowly. More like 2 - 3 hours to Shark Valley.

The reason I had earmarked shark valley to visit was so we could go on the tram tour. We would then have the ranger escorting us. We want to see some wildlife - but not too closely!!! I would welcome any suggestions elsewhere in the everglades though. Thanks for your reply.

There are ranger led tours at Royal Palm Visitor Center. You walk along a boardwalk. Check out the National Park Service website for details on both. You'll see lots of birds/gators at both.
