Driving from Houston to Florida without diapers

My husband and I are planning a quickie roadtrip from Houston to Miami.
We want to complete the trip in three days max.
Are there any interesting spots to see along the way?
New Orleans alone might be more than enough, given our tight schedule...
Thanks!

You're talking about 18 hours driving which is two very long days of driving. I can see doing this one of two ways.

Go to New Orleans and arrive early afternoon, do a little sightseeing and have a nice dinner. Second day enjoy NO for a few hours, then drive to Pensacola and spend the night at the beach there. Third day go the rest of the way to Miami.

OR

Drive to Mobile area or Pensacola Beach area the first day, spend two nights there and relax the second day, and then drive on to Miami on the third day.

I'd probably do the first of those.

It Depends...

NeoPatrick,
The first sounds like a great itinerary. Thank you.

May the trip not stress you out and may you find the Serenity you are looking for!

Ahh, adult diaper humor...what's not to love?

LOL!

hmmm. Driving from Texas to Florida and NOT wearing diapers. Guess you aren't astronauts, bridezilla?

Watch out for the Texas Rangers and the Miami Heat ;)

I'm thinking that a straight drive from Pensacola to Miami would be too long.
Any suggestions on where we could stop that might be a little further down the coast? Apalachicola area maybe?

NeoPatrick Oct 3rd, 2007 04:57 AM

That drive will be right at 10 hours.
The only problem with Apalachicola is that it is so far and slow off the interstate. You'd be driving about three hours of very slow traffic beyond Pensacola. In other words that second day becomes 7 and a half or 8 hours of driving, which eliminates any time to enjoy New Orleans in the morning. But you would be saving an hour and a half or so to get to Miami.

I'd personally stick with Pensacola, as there is nothing really worth stopping for from there to Miami. Leave at 8 in the morning and get to Miami about 6 -- or 8 stopping for a decent lunch and other short stops.

Very good point, thank you.

I'm not familiar at all with that area.

I'll look into the Pensacola area then.

Besides, my husband and I can split the driving.

Maybe we will need them diapers after all!!

Have you looked at the map? The drive along the panhandle gulf coast can be very pretty, but it is very slow going. The only place the much quicker interstate route almost hits the coast is at Pensacola.

By the way, I was checking and basing my cited driving times with mapquest, which I find pretty accurate for that area.

I should check out mapquest, then.

This way we would have more time in New Orleans. We're very excited.

Check out NASA's Operations Manual. I think they have a separate section on driving from Houston to Florida with/without diapers!
