Driving from FL to Albuquerque, NM

I will be driving a very small car with my very large dog from Ft. Lauderdale to Albequerque at the end of Sept. We love car trips to new and exciting places and am looking for suggestions of parks for camping and sightseeing along the way.
I was looking at coming through TX on the way out there and then up to CO and back through MO on the way home. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I can help you with things to see/do/restaurants etc in and around ABQ and also SW Colorado. Not so much on the actual road trip part.

When will you be driving through CO to return home? Oct can see snow at elevations in CO by Oct.

Thank Deb. I would like to go up to Co on the way back as I need to stop and see family in MO.
What's the deal with dogs? I am having trouble deciphering if they are allowed in various parks. When I have been in other areas out west they were everywhere but am getting concerned reading the nps websites and trying to find parks to camp at with him.

Not sure if there is a park by park rule about dogs. I live near Mesa Verde in SW CO and it doesn't allow dogs. Also, keep in mind that some campsites close around that time. Do your homework.

If you want to stay in national or state parks, check their rules regarding pets. You may need to look for KOA campgrounds.
