Driving from DC to Louisville; suggestions?

Will be driving in April from Annapolis to Louisville. We can't get on the road until late in the day but would like to stop for the night somewhere on the west side of the DC area, maybe 100 miles. Any suggestions?
Not interested in the Greenbrier! Too expensive for our wallets.

Are you looking for some hotels with special features, or just somewhere to spend the night for your roadtrip?

And I assume you're taking I-70/68/79/64, right?

Your driving range would have you staying over between Strasburg and New Market on I-81. In Strasburg there is the old charming Strasburg Hotel in town. There are chain hotels in Woodstock, New Market, and Harrisonburg.

That would be if you are driving I-81 to I-64.

I think we'd be driving I79-I70-I64. We're looking for "an interesting place" to stay one night, about 100 miles or so from Annapolis area. Maybe some place around Cumberland.

Oops! Should be I-70 to I-79 to I-64. Got my "I's" mixed up.

Website at Walnut Bottom Inn in Cumberland looks interesting. Are you familiar with it?
