Driving from Dallas, TX Raliegh, NC
 

I will be driving with my mom who is 70 but very active from Dallas to Raliegh mid june to attend a family wedding(unfortunately she's afraid to fly).

I thought we might make a vacation out of it. We are planning on being gone about 10 -12 days and I was hoping for some suggestions for fun places along the way we might want to visit. My mom is very interested in antiques, history and museums. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There are two main routes you can take - I-30/40 or I-20/85.

For the northern I-30/40 route, you can make a short detour in Hot Springs, AR; then stay in Memphis to see Graceland, etc. Nashville has Grand Ole Opry, and you can then go to Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg just SE of Knoxville. Finally, see the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC.

If you take I-20/85, you'll find more stuff about civil rights history. Take US80 East after getting into AL to visit Selma and Montgomery, and then I-85 to Atlanta. Then I-20 to Columbia, SC.

Since you'll be driving both ways, I'd suggest taking a different route each way. Much more interesting.

I-20 will also take you through Vicksburg, MS; Civil War battlefield and museum here. Shreveport, LA has the American Rose Center--pretty rose gardens.

It is about two hours out of your way but Huntsville, Al has the Space and Science Museum, you might enjoy a stop at the Jack Daniels brewery in Lynchburg, TN, and Chattanooga, TN has historic battlefields. From Nashville you can take I-65 to I-565 and Huntsville, then north on US 231 to US 50 and stop in Lynchburg, then over to I-24,and down to Chattannoga before heading back up to I-40 on I-75; Or continue South on I-24 to I-85 in Atlanta. Regardless of the route there are things to see in every town. PS: Try the southern BBQ.
