Driving from Charleston to Asheville
 

We are flying to Charleston for three days then renting a car to drive to Asheville.

Do you recommend
visiting in between?

I'd add a day in Charleston and just get on to Asheville. I assume you are then seeing the Asheville area.

Consider a stop in Greenville, SC. Like Asheville, it is a city that has revived itself, particularly in the central city. Textile Mills have been replaced by Michelin and BMW factories, old shops with restaurants, brew pubs, galleries, and boutiques, old warehouses with a concert venue and athletic fields. A choked and polluted river has become a linear park with walking paths and waterfalls.

I think it will make an interesting comparison with Asheville.

Yep, forgot about Greenville. Good art museum also.
