Driving from Austin to Fort Worth, Texas
Are the any attractions of particular interest that we should check out when we drive from Austin and Fort Worth in early December?

No :) I have made the drive a few times from DFW to Waco and onto Austin... and there is not really anything between the two. Some fun names of towns (I love the name waxahachie!)

There's not a whole lot except farm and ranch land.
You might want to stop in the town of Salado, TX (www.salado.com) - it's a small "artist" village with some 60 shops and galleries selling fine arts, antiques, pottery, and crafts. There's an Retail Outlet Center in Hillsboro, TX. Waco has a few museums, a zoo and a couple of parks (www.wacocvb.com/waco-attractions.asp). Not much else, though. FYI - You'll probably be taking I-35W from Austin to Fort Worth and won't pass through Waxahachie as mentioned by Momddtravel2. To do that you have to take I-35E just north of Hillsboro toward Dallas - not the best routing if you are going to Fort Worth. |
Many of the outlet stores in Hillsboro are closed--not what it once was when it was the only outlet for a long way.
Texas Ranger Museum in Waco. Never been but it sounds interesting. I'd save your time for Ft Worth. |
Connie my daughter is at Baylor and said that most are closed - that it was very depressing!

If you have time, drive west from Austin to 281 and take it north to Ft Worth . . that will keep y0u off the boring interstate and you can see some of the Texas Hill Country
|
If you take US 281, take a small detour in Bulverde to the Texas Rodeo. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractio...rde_Texas.html
Lets move Hello Relaxation out of here. |
Thanks for the US 281 suggestion. It looks good, and that's what we will do.

really nothing but keeping your eye on the road at all times .. there is massive road construction from Austin to Waco with traffic .. after Waco, all barren farm land ..
