Driving FL to DC

Me, my husband, and 7 year old son are driving to DC from Florida. Where are some fun places to stop over night on the way up and back. We'll probably have one night on the way up and two on the way back. Thanks!

I don't know what part of Florida you're traveling from, but our drives from Orlando to DC (13 hours) with the kids were always a long, boring experience. Stopping in Charleston is a possibility, but that's about it.

Have done the opposite trip a few times. Stop by South of the Border between South Carolina and North Carolina on 95 - totally touristy, campy and you'll love it.

I'm hoping to bump this up and get some more opinions. We are travelling from central florida (Merritt Island) via I-95. We'll probably stay in Savannah on the way up but have two nights to spend on the way back. How is Charleston or the outerbanks? Thanks!!!

Several of the coastal islands are a pleasant stop. If you divide your trip back home into equal legs for two overnight stops, I'd suggest the first night at Wilmington, NC, and the second night somewhere between Savannah and Brunswick. Sea Island and St Simons Island near Brunswick are nice. Good luck.
