Driving distances in HAWAII
 

1.(maui) How long does it take to drive from Ka'anapali Beach area to the summit of the volcano to watch the sunrise? <BR> <BR>2. (Oahu) How long does it take to drive from the Waikiki area to the North Shore beaches? Hanauma Bay? Kaileu? <BR> <BR>Thanks! <BR> <BR>

It usually takes me 3 or 4 drives with a Big Bertha to get to the summit. You may need 6-7 since I'm an old pro. <BR>If you're Tiger Woods a couple of 2 iron drives should do. <BR> <BR>Hope this helps.

Goodlife, we took a tour bus from Kaanapali to the summit and it took about 1.5-2 hours.

Hanauma Bay is about 1.5 hours away from <BR>North Shore. You should do a round the island ride to see what if offers. I don <BR>t know why Hanauma bay get's so much good press here. I can't believe there are not more secluded or at least protected spots on the island to snorkle. Lanikai beach in Kailua is gorgeous an much more worth the stroll (not a snorkle spot) as well as a hike to light house at nearby Makapu (sp). Hanauma bay is so over run with tourist and on a windy day you just don't see anything IMHO. <BR> <BR>It is 45 minutes to honolulu from North Shore than another 20 to Hanauma Bay.

Hannah's estimates of driving times are good - it might take longer if you hit rush hour traffic (7:00am - 8:30am ish and 4:00pm - 6:30pm ish). Traffic will jam up through downtown during both times, and will also be bad heading from north shore towards town in the morning and out of town towards north shore in the evening. During these times expect to at least double travel times, possibly triple. Since you are on vacation, this shouldn't present too much of a problem. But attempting to drive across the downtown area (on H1 - heading in either direction) is best avoided during rush hours. <BR> <BR>From Kaanapali to Haleakala is roughly 2 - 2 1/2 hour drive. If you go for sunrise be sure to bring warm clothes - its cold (40 degrees or less).

Depending on time of day and what part of Kailua you are driving to, it could take about 40 minutes to drive their from Waikiki. I live right by the Pali and it takes me 20 minutes to get to Kailua town.
