We are driving from D.C. on 9-27 to Charlottesville. VA How best to go from D.C.? How long a drive?

Are there any cultural events in the Charlottesville are on 9/27, 9/28 or 9/29?

It took us 2.5 -3 hrs. to get from DC to Charlottesville and vice versa a couple of months ago. I don't have a map in front of me but we did not go to Richmond but rather took the road that heads north from Charlottesville, and eventually ended up at Arlington and then took the road that goes past the Jefferson memorial. We left at 9A as I had an appt. at 1 on a weekday. There was not a lot of traffic until we got to DC, and it was not standstill.

I don't know what's going on but I enjoyed the tour of the Rotunda (is that what it's called?) on the UV campus, followed by a walk into the backyard gardens of the buildings that flank it. Very pretty.

I hope you have hotel reservations. UVa has a home football game and Charlottesville will be hopping. Or maybe that's what you're going for.

Oopps.Sorry, wrong weekend. They are home this Sat. the 25 and then home again Thurs. night the 30th.

To get to Charlottesville from DC, I'd take Rt 66 West toward Front Royal until you get to US 29 South. Take 29 all the way to Cville. It should take about 2.5 hours. Leave the DC area before 2 in the afternoon or you'll risk traffic delays.
