Drive to Sedona from L.A.-Best place to stop overnight??

We are planning to drive to Sedona from Los Angeles (and, of course, to drive back). What is the best place to stop to break up our drive--we would like some hints on where to stop to eat, but, mostly, where to stop for the night. We are a family of four (parents and two college students). Thanks for any hints you can give us!

Mapquest says it's about 7 1/2 hours via I-40, I would just drive it in one push, but if you take that route Kingman is the logical place to stop for the night I guess.

It's also about 7 1/2 hours via I-10, thru Phoenix (per Mapquest). This is a better winter route if there is any chance of a storm since you'd be driving in rain instead of snow and ice. The western outskirts of Phoenix would be a good place to stop but again I'd probably just push on thru.

I agree with Bill_H, there really is no good place to stop. I do that cross desert RT drive a couple of times a year and always just keep going. If you really cannot go on there are places to stop if you must but no place interesting. Some I know stop at a rest stop for a nap which may be the best idea if you need a break so you don't have to stop overnight.

After reading your post again why would you need to stop with 4 possible drivers - piece of cake.

Right. There is no place of interest to stop unless you've never been to Las Vegas and are curious about it. Driving via LV would add about 35-40 miles and an hour or so of driving.

You cold stop and visit Palm Springs I suppose, if you've never been.

I've made that drive more than a few times, by myself. Really no need to stop.

Thanks, everyone. Joannay, we have only two drivers in our car. Tracy2cents--Palm Springs is too close to where we live. Happytrailstoyou, I think that Las Vegas might work!

Any good places to eat along the way?

Any good places to eat along the way?

Are you taking I-40 or I-10?

"Joannay, we have only two drivers in our car." Polas

Polas, I have only 1 driver in my car, not trying to duel here, just pointing out that with 2 drivers it should be perfectly doable.
