Drive to Santa Barbara

Hi,

How long does it typically take to drive from Ragged Pt Inn along Big Sur to Santa Barbara Airport? Mapquest shows 2 1/2 hrs, so I am thinking 3 hrs to be safe. On a weekday, should be expect it to take longer?

Thanks

What time do you need to be at the airport (drop car, check in, etc.)? There will be traffic from San Luis Obispo through Santa Maria. I would allow at least 3-3 1/2 hours.

Flight is at 2 pm, so hoping to be there by 12 pm latest, so leave Ragged Pt by 8 am?

From my home in Santa Cruz it takes 4 hours to get to Santa Barbara on 101. From there I'd give myself 2 1/2 hours, just to be safe.

I think glimmer has the timing about right. Why not hit the road early, make a nice stop for late breakfast (Pismo? Penny's All American cafe is terrific). That way you'd be mostly through the traffic and can speed up/slow down as needed. Remember--ther airport is on the west side of SB so you won't be actually going INTO town.
