drive to Las Vegas from palm springs
 

I'm driving next month from Palm Springs CA to Las vegas (only one way, picking up our flight in vegas)

I know its about 300 miles but
is there anything to stop and see along the way?

There are 2 ways to go. You can head West on 10 to and then NE on 15 if you are a fan of expressway driving or you can go through the desert via 2 lane roads with little services. I have done both and neither has much to see along the way.

Whoops....me compass directions are from PS to Vegas...just reverse those.

placeu2's directions are good. Nothing of special interest on the way. However, if you're a shopaholic, you'll want to stop at the two outlet malls in Cabazon, just 15 minutes west of Palm Springs on the 10. Other than that....

And that's just about it. The drive on the 15 is long and dull, with absolutely nothing to see, unless there's an accident, in which case you'll see plenty of cars' taillights in front of you, not moving.

I believe there is the "World's Largest Thermometer" in Baker, also notorious as the home of "Bun Boy." And of course, there is always the profound, cheap amusement of seeing the ZZyzx Road exit sign off of I-15.

Then there is Primm and the roller coaster.

Beware 15 Freeway on weekends, there is some major construction causing 3 hour delays fri through early mondays.
If you go the other (longer) way, you can stop at Joshua Tree Park and can also pass Lake Mead, Hoover Dam etc on your way into Las Vegas.

Hmmm the desert route that I had in mind does not go through Lake Mead or Hoover Dam. There is a route that I did through twentynine palms and then winds through the Mojave and a couple of very small (5 building type) "towns". I guess if you followed I-40 out to Arizona you could find your way to Hoover but that seems rather out of the way to me.

Agree with the other posters. Not much to see on either route, but the couple of times I have done it, I've always done the desert route. There is a little town called Amboy which has a fairly large, black volcano which is now dormant. There's also Roy's diner, which is supposed to be good (haven't been there myself). Just make sure your car is running well. I wouldn't want to break down out there!
