Drive times in Hawaii?
My boyfriend and I plan on renting a car in Honolulu and seeing Pearl Harbor, Wakiki and the other sites. After that, we are going to drive to our hotel in Maui. How much time should we allow and is there anything interesting to see along the way? (We like to hike and visit waterfalls, beaches, and that kind of stuff)

Very funny!!! What road will you take to Maui? The back roads or the highway? Need to know so we can give you time estimates.

Gotta top this - I'm dying to know the driving time from Honolulu to Maui!! What the heck kind of car are you planning to rent - hope it does well in water!

Who was the comedian who asked "Why is there and Interstate Highway on Oahu?"

Since Mrs Kal is golfing on Kauai now, we ship our 2 sets of clubs via UPS. It cost about $75ish to ship them over and only $35ish to ship them back. And when you ship them back, I think it's called Second Day Ground???

We laffed and then the UPS guy, and 49er fan Richie, tells us it's cheaper because "Only one lane hiway over-A two lane hiway back".
We do have some friends who won't go over until they build a bridge so they can drive. Their loss, yah?
kal

As a former UPS employee, the reason is because we only offer 2 day and 1 day air TO Hawaii. FROM Hawaii you can select ground rates as well, although "ground" really travels by air to California then does the normal ground transit through the continental USA. Fedex now offers ground rates (which travels by air as well) to AND from Hawaii but they have gouged the rates so it's not that much cheaper than regular 2 day air. USPS ground is the worst -- they send it on a boat that takes 1 month minimum either way.

Why does UPS only offer 2 and 1 day to Hawaii? Because it's one of the most profitable routes for UPS and they can get away with it! Air cargo TO Hawaii is always packed full. But the same plane that departs Hawaii is only half full. Fedex has capitalized by actually renting half their departing planes from Hawaii to USPS to carry their air cargo to the mainland.
