Drive Oahu
We will be in Waikiki the week of February 1st, and we would like to rent a car for a day and drive the coastal road around the island. Does anyone have suggestions on what to see? Thank you.

We were impressed by the views (pipeline) with the drive around the island and enjoyed refreshments at the touristy Dole stand souvenir shop. You might have time for Waimea Falls Park, here is a link to it & more:

we rented a car for a day and started with a snorkel at Haunauma Bay. Then drove up the coast, stopping at the famous surf breaks (Sunset, the Pipe, Waimea) and then spent a few hours in the town of Haleiwa (lunch, shopping, shave ice). returned to Waikiki via the road that runs inland past the Dole Plantation. a great day!!

Don't forget the East side - blowhole, sandies, Waimanalo, LaniKai etc.
|
Add the shrimp shack on the east side, it's on the left hand side (driving north) a few miles south from the shrimp truck and cheaper, 10 garlic fried big shrimp and 2 scopes of hot rice, plus an ice cream float in tropical juices, yummy! Also The Pali Outlook is worth a short detour.
|
Also, don't miss the drive up the Tantalus. The views are spectacular.
|
Thanks to all! We're looking forward to it. Islandmom, you're the best!

Oh there is also a book put out by the Hawaii Visitors Bureau. I think it is called Driving and Discovering Oahu. |
Laie Point is cool for photos.
|
Waimea Falls Park is now Audubon $8 and no activities. You can swim though.
|
Punahou fair is that weekend if you want some local flair.
