Drive from Orlando to Miami
 

I'm going to Florida for a week with my boyfriend. We are flying from the west coast to Orlando. Staying at Disney for 4 days then driving to Miami for another 3 and return to fly back at Orlando. Any suggestions on which route to take? I understand that there's a toll road that runs straight but is that the best way? Thank you.

The Florida Turnpike IMO is the best way, less traffic and aggravation than going I-4 to 95 or any other way.

The Turnpike will take you about four hours and will cost $12 or so each way. It's a long, boring drive.

It's long and boring, but I returned from a trip and took a non-major road ( two lane road).. and saw a very, very bad head on collision. Some of the 2 lane Fla roads are very dangerous. Be boring.. Stick to the TPK.

There is only one way to go, the Turnpike.<BR><BR>Do not go on I-95 or you could add hours !<BR><BR>And yes it is a long boring drive.

No good places to stop. Take a cooler and fill it with pop and snacks...

There are rest stops on the turnpike about every 50 miles. Theyusually have two or three fast food restaurants (Nathan's Hot Dogs, Burger King, Miami Subs, Dunkin Donuts). There's really no reason to leave the Turnpike. Between Kissimmee and Fort Pierce there are only two exits in 92 miles.

I live in East Orlando. I usually take I-95 towards Miami because my house is closer to I-95 than the Turnpike. Its 4 long, boring hours no matter which road you take. No interesting sightseeing along the way.

Amy, <BR><BR>Just to clarify, everyone suggested taking the Turnpike, NOT I-4. If you take I-4 from Orlando you will end up in either Daytona or Tampa!<BR><BR>As far as other routes, when you get south around West Palm, I-95 and the Turnpike more or less parallel each other. I-95 has nothing special to see and the traffic can be very bad depending on the time of day, but what I would suggest is going over to A1A at some point and using it. A1A is the easternmost road along the beaches in Florida. It will add considerable time depending on how far you go on it, but it is beautiful! Mansions all along the ocean and the intercoastal as well as the beaches themselves. Some areas are quaint little beachy towns. Maybe on your way down to Miami you can do a jog over to A1A through Palm beach for an hour or so, and on your way back do another or further south near Ft Lauderdale. I can't resist A1A any time I am near the east coast!

driver, any less boring road would add a lot more than an hour to your trip.
