There's a couple of good routes. Probably the quickest is US 95, NV 266/CA 168, US 395 to CA 203 at Mammoth Lakes. This will take you about 6 hours. Conditions are usually good unless there is a major snow storm east of the Sierra. Check highway conditions before taking this route in winter.

The other, more scenic route is to go through Death Valley which has lower passes.

Play around with google maps for precise directions and more info.

If you are driving round trip, you can take one route getting there and the other when returning.

Heading for Lone Pine, which you must pass through en route to Mammoth, I always go via Parhump & Death Valley catching CA 190 to 395 north to 202 into Mammoth. Sherwin Summit at 7,000 feet is the highest pass on that route.

I was looking at Mapquest, but seems like there is no snow conditions at Mapquest.Where is the best place online to find it?
Also the fastest road to Mammoth takes almost 6 hours, how long the road through Dead Valley takes?thank you for help.

California road conditions:

The DV route depends on how many stop you make in the park. If you drive straight through I don't think it add more than 30-45 minutes to the drive, Route 190 from DV to Lone Pine and thence north on 395.
