Drive from Juneau to Anchorage

How many hours would it take to drive non-stop from Juneau to Anchorage? Thanks.

Juneau is only accessible by air and sea. ;-)

To clarify, looking for driving time including necessary ferry rides.

I think it's humanly possible to drive from Haines to Anchorage in a day, but I wouldn't, so an overnight en route makes it two relatively easy days. If you have two drivers or one of you is a med student, go for it.

The "old" ferry from Juneau to Haines takes around 4+ hours; this will be cut by 2/3 when the new "fast ferry" enters service this spring. I assume that also means higher prices for the quicker run, but ought to be worth it for the novelty. The new ship, the Fairweather, is one of 2 (? - more?) high speed car ferries ordered by the AMH. Look out, whales.

So I suppose that means that one-day (meaning a 24 hour period) trips from Juneau to Southcentral will be "more" feasible. Yikes.

Any information on a fast ferry between Valdez and Whittier this summer?

Gardyloo Mar 7th, 2004 07:06 AM

The Chenega is reportedly to start serving Prince William Sound in 2005.
