Hey,<BR>Were planning on driving along the<BR>east coast of florida to atlanta<BR>on a 2 day drive. Was planning<BR>on taking I-95 north to I-75 north.<BR><BR>Can anyone suggest any good stopovers<BR>of about an hour or two?<BR>Also, are there any good towns with<BR>good, inexpensive hotels in southern<BR>GA along our drive?<BR><BR>Also, has anyone driven this route<BR>over the holidays. Wanted to get an<BR>idea of how crowded it gets....<BR><BR>Thanks

How are you taking I-95 to I-75? I-75 runs parallel to I-95 with about 75 miles between them. Where are you planning to head west from I-95?<BR><BR>The second exit in Georgia on I-95 is St. Mary's/Brunswick and has several hotels, all chains. There are several B&B's in St. Mary's near the water, but none I'd really go out of my way for.<BR><BR>The only stopover I'd consider is St. Augustine to see the old town. Other than that, it's a pretty dull drive.<BR>

We're switching to I-75 in<BR>Jacksonville, i believe via I-10.<BR><BR>So, are there any exits off I-95<BR>for St. augustine that are worth<BR>stopping over for an hour or two?<BR><BR>Also, are there any unsafe spots<BR>along I-75 towards Atlanta?<BR><BR>Do you recommend valdosta as<BR>a good place to spend the night?<BR><BR><BR>Thanks

Yes, I would still recommend stopping off in St. Augustine, which is about 30 minutes south of Jacksonville. You can spend a nice couple of hours looking around in the Old Town and perhaps touring the fort. Keep your eyes open for dolphins in the bay; I've always seen them from the fort.<BR><BR>Valdosta has all the chain hotels you would expect and is about three hours from Atlanta. I have never stopped enroute (Orlando to Atlanta, 6.5 hours) so I can't help you there.<BR><BR>There are parts of South and Central Atlanta I have felt unsafe in at times, like any big city, but by and large I don't think you have anything to worry about on I-75. It's a pretty quick drive.
