Drive between Albany, NY and Boston

We are planning on driving from Albany, NY to the Boston area (Lowell actually) on Saturday Oct 14th. We're trying to plan our route either through lower NH or across MA. Which drive would be more scenic?

We've driven Rt.2 across MA this time of year and found it very scenic. Don't recommend the Mass Pike -- it's faster, not terrible, but pretty much a highway just like any other highway.

Thank you. That's what I wanted to know.

Not sure about the route once past Brattleboro, VT, but I used to take the route from Albany to the Mount Snow area for skiing. From Albany the route through Troy onto Route 7 East. That'll bring you to Bennington, from there to Brattleboro is via Route 9.

There are a couple of scenic overlooks between Wilmington and Brattleboro that have a phenomenal view of the lowlands below.

But you know, there was a lot of construction on Rt 2 this summer, with traffic stops in the middle of everything. I don't know if it is finished. It could get crowded and slow in peak leaf-peeper season.

You might want to look for a traffic report before deciding -- the Mass Pike does have lots of hills and wooded scenery and wouldn't be an awful choice.
