Dressing Up for Miami

When I go with my friends to Miami next month, our evening plans are to go salsa dancing at Bongo's and Palladium (Ft. Lauderdale). Do you really have to dress to the nines or can women get away with a cute/sexy top and nice jeans? The website for Palladium says no jeans, but I'm wondering if that's really for men. In Houston, dress codes are usually for men, women can get away with anything just about.

Well- I think that dress rules are usually there for a reason.

And have never understood the mania for dancing in jeans (which are too heavy, thick and hot IMHO). Is there something wrong with a cute little skirt? Or dress? Or pretty lightweight pants?

It all depends on the club.

Most clubs down here are not like the Big NYC clubs that have a bouncer that lets in only who he wants (That occurs in South Beach). So at one of these clubs you should really dress to the nines.

Now there are clubs where jeans and a cute top are ok. Bongo's and Palladium I think are those kinds of clubs.

People down here are either working all day or at the beach all day, so when they go out at night they just want to be comfortable. And remember it is hot down here. 80's at night, so in jeans you might be too hot.

I live in Miami as well, and some clubs are really strict on their dress code. I have never been to Bongo's, but I know its also a restaurant, so they can't be too picky about clothing. I would call ahead just to be safe,...you don't want to come all the way down here and then be turned away. And PP is right, it is crazy hot and humid down here in Septemeber.

The weather in Miami is nearly the same or better than Houston, so I'm prepared for that. I like wearing jeans because then I have pockets to carry my cash and ID. That's the problem with a dress or skirt. You can't exactly dance with a purse!!

I tried to call Palladium this evening, but no answer. Will try tomorrow.

Thanks for the comments!

One of the posters say it is not like NYC where they are picky letting you in...are you kidding me!!!

South Beach clubs have some of the most rediculous door men in the biz, that make NYC clubs look easy to get in.

I challenge you to get into Opium, Mansion, Mynt, Tantra unless you know the doorman, grease his palm or dress to the nines!

And why are you going to Bongos???? It is in the middle of no where, do you know about Macarenna on Washington in Sobe??? Much better choice and then you can move around.

Jeans in my opinion is a really bad idea with the heat and humidity, though you see people wearing them, but it is not going to help you get into a hot club.

Macarena by the way is no prob getting into until 9pm when a cover charge of 20$ goes into place, but then again things dont really start going until 11
