Dress for Vegas Shows?

Honest to God, I feel like slitting my wrists for posting this question, since I always gritted my teeth with that oldie but goodie, "How should I dress in Rome" question that always seems to pop up. But wife is forcing me to ask. LOL

What is acceptable (or middle of the road) dress for your typical Vegas show? We are seeing one magic show and one review type show both at 10 PM. Are the later shows more dressy? Some forums say anything goes from shorts to evening wear. Havent been to Vegas as a couple without kids before, so only used to the Knights type show at Excalibur. Feeling business casual (polo shirt, dress slacks) but no coat, what do you think?

That would be fine. The days of dressing up for shows are long gone and it makes me sad. You'll see pretty much everything. As for your wife? I would wear a skirt or nice slacks and a nice top, or a nice dress. A "daytime" dress would be fine.

I wish they wouldn't let people in dressed like some of them are, but it's different times these days.

When in Rome do as the Romans do.

When in Vegas do as you wish.
This applies even at Caesars Palace :)

Nobody cares what you wear. It is not so much different times: Vegas is a different place. Polo shirt and jeans, ok. A deep neckline for women is standard there.

The answer is truly "anything goes." Wear what will make you feel comfortable.

I just got back from Vegas and went to two shows (Mystere and Blue Man Group). I didn't notice more people dressing up at the later show. You will see a good range of outfits, from shorts and jeans to cocktail dresses, but casual tends to rule the day. If your wife wears a dress of any kind she will be on the "dressier" end of the crowd. A polo shirt and dress slacks will be fine.

crefloors, I agree. Some places are too relaxed on their dress codes fearful of turning anyone away.

jim, we saw it all in Vegas. Slacks for you and a dress for her will get you in anywhere.

You can get in wearing anything more than a swimsuit. So wear whatever you will feel comfortable in for that type of event.

Just returned and everybody was correct. Saw everything at the shows from cocktail wear to jogging shorts and flip flops. Guess when you spend $100 + for show tickets you don't have much left over for clothes. I felt over-dressed wering socks.
