dress code in october
 

Hi, I will in Orlando in October for business. I will be staying at a resort near Disney and attending some dinners and events at some of the parks. The dress code on the invitation is business casual to casual. Where I come from business casual in October consists of light wool pants or cords and sweater tops. Given that the weather is still warm in Florida at that time, I am curious of what I should pack. Are capri jeans for the casual event out of the question ot should I just stick to regular long jeans? Sandals? Your help will be appreciated.

Orlando will still be warm that time of year. I would wear regular pants (not jeans) to the business casual events, but not wool.
Opt for a nice polo shirt instead of a sweater. Too warm for sweater attire.
Nice pair of casual jeans with a tucked in shirt and belt would be fine for the casual events. Because it's business, I would opt for a comfortable pair of loafers instead of sandals.

If you want to be taken seriously (unless this is the music business or similar) skip the jean capris and the sandals. That's not business casual - it's plain casual.

I think jeans can be done if it says "casual". However jeans with business peers have to be nice, dark jeans dressed up a bit - perhaps a bit of a heel, nice top, jewelery.

A company I used to work for had an exhibit at Epcot and annually brought the big clients in for meetings at Disney for big trade show/conventions. Granted I was in sales escorting clients but I wore linen or cotton pants suits with pressed T shirts or polos kind of safari looking. Could dress up with scarf and jewelry for evening or dress down with T shirt. Big veliever in layering as you go from freezing A/C to humid Orlando weather several times during the day. Sandals are fine, not flip flops but nice leather sandals would be OK. Make sure you have a pedicure or your feet look neat. You can never go wrong with nice black pants and adjust your top from jacket to T shirt depending on the setting. Most important, those were very long days beginning early in a.m. continuing late into evening (with lots of clients drinking). Make sure whatever you bring is very comfortable and take a travel iron (or check with the hotel). Casual can be forgiven sometimes if you look neat and pressed.

Thank you for the replies. I think dark jeans and dressy sandals may work ok then. I re-read the memo and they actually said shorts were ok for the casual event. I really don't think I will go that route though. But it makes me feel better about wearing the jeans.

I would wear jeans, heels, a dressy top, and a fitted cotton jacket.

I have been in the Orlando area for 16 years. October can still be quite warm. I never wear long jeans until later in the year...too hot. Here is more casual than other places. I come from a Fortune 500 Massachusetts background. I have also attended many casual functions here for my husband's various high tech companies. Guys usually wear Dockers and golf shirts. Woman can absolutely get away with "nice" capris, casual skirt, cute shirt, good sandals, great pedicure. I never wear closed shoes until December at least! One thing people don't understand about here is that we do change our clothes for the seasons. I always put away summerly looking things right now and opt for darker, more fall like color things. Still light weight though!

thurston, I live in South Carolina and well understand the heat and humidity.

I wear jeans all year long. Even in July and August.

Whatever makes you comfortable. I just can't do it, though my DH does on Fridays to work, but the offices are cold. At the parks I cannot imagine wearing long dungarees this time of year!

I believe we will be outside mostly in the evenings for cocktails and such. Would it be cooler than 80 degrees on a normal basis? That is usually my cutoff weather for jeans.

Hard to say. It was cooler late this afternoon and a storm came through. Now very hot & humid, uncomfortable!!!! It can change drastically, or not. Check www.weather.com just before packing your stuff, or post back as I am usually here daily at least.

It will most likely be warm, even above 80 at night, or at least humid. It will definitely be above 80 in the day, even up to 85 or 90.

I used to travel to Orlando on business quite a bit and that's how I know. It can even be warm and humid in November.

However, they usually crank the A/C a bit too much in those conference facilities, so that is something to consider.
