Dress code at Pigalle in Boston?
 

My husband has planned this great night out at Pigalle Restaurant, but I have to pack the clothes. Any suit/tie/coat regulations or can we just go with the dress pants and button down shirt? I will be looking lovely of course, I just need to know how much I have to schlepp for him.

What the British would call "smart casual." Nice shirt, nice trousers, not golf shirt and baggy trousers. The look is 'cool'. Jackets are always good, but not necessary.

When we went on a Sunday night a few months ago, younger people (30s) were wearing button-down shirts and nice jeans; older people had jacket and tie (but I think they went to a show beforehand). There was also a table which I assumed to be tourists - wearing sweatshirts and shorts.

Shorts, really? That is too bad. If this casual trend continues we are all just going to be back in togas.

I was also going to ask if people wore shorts during the day in Boston? In Chicago you are a tourist with shorts on, in Detroit you are a tourist if you don't have shorts on. Which one is Boston?

Bostonians wear pants when they go to work, wear shorts on weekends when it's hot and they're having a BBQ.

I don't think it's gonna be that hot in the next few days that you'll need shorts.

If you do wear shorts, you'll scream tourists.

Do you think it is more acceptable for the man to be in dress shorts if the woman looks nicer? I'm packing nice capris and skirts to wear during the day. With my husband it is really either nice dress pants or shorts and he'll lean toward the shorts. It is going to be almost 80 degrees. But I'm talking country club golf shorts, not Metallica concert shorts.

Oh, and we are in our 30's if that helps at all.

What are your plans for the day? If you are just doing the "tourist" stuff (going to Quincy Market, walking around, taking a Duck Tour) shorts are fine. If you are going to any of the museums, your hubby would be okay in dress shorts as well and would also be fine in khakis. You will find that Boston is a pretty casual city and you'll see people wearing all sorts of stuff. BTW I can tell a tourist if you are walking along carrying a street map and looking lost. That's okay, too, and don't hesitate to ask for directions if you need them. Enjoy Boston - it's a fun city and you will have a great time here.

Good to know about the shorts. Sounds like we will be fine. And I will have my gps in my purse just in case.
