dream holiday
i am from england and will be going to las vegas the week between christmas and new year for the first time. we have booked into the luxor and are flying with american airlines. it is our wedding anniversary and my husband has been so supportive this year when i have been unwell. we do not have a great deal of money but want to make the most of vegas, please could anyone give us tips to maximise our spending money

Hi excited! Go to CheapoLasVegas.com (if that isn't the exact website, do a search on google.com) for loads of great tips.
Pick up the coupon books as they usually have match play coupons and freebies.
Make sure you see the fountains at The Bellagio. It is the greatest show in Vegas and free!
Go to the clubs when they open to avoid cover charges.

The coupon books are a good idea. Also there are several free shows, like the last poster said the fountains at Bellagio. Also, the volcano outside the Mirage. There was also a pirate show outside Treasure Island at the Mirage, but they recently stopped that one and are replacing it with another. Also, go to one (or more) of the many fine buffets in Vegas--very good values. My favorites are the Spice Market Buffet at Aladdin and the Bellagio.

If you want to see a show, try an afternoon show instead of an evening. Rick Thomas at the Tropicana is a fun magic show- about $15 pp instead of $60 for an evening magic show. I've seen him a few times and it's a blast!
The buffet at the Orleans is also excellent and a little less expensive than strip buffets. And for transportation, there's free monorails between many of the hotels on the south of the strip. You can get between Mandalay Bay, Luxor, and Excalibur for free. Another one is between the Mirage and Treasure Island. There's also one from the MGM, but I don't remember where it goes - maybe Bally's.

One thing that you want to avoid if you want to save money, is taking cabs, if at all possible. They are very expensive. From the airport to the hotel I'd advise a shuttle service. As of now the only monorail service is between Excalibur, Luxor, and Mandalay Bay and between Mirage and Treasure Island. The folowing website has information on when the new monorail routes will be opening.

call las vegas limousines 1-888-696-4400 we had a one hour drive on the strip at night for thirty five dollars in a stretch limo. it was a lot of fun. ask for Evertte Duhay chauffer. he even took our picture at sites up and down the strip.

Go to the Players Club at your casino and get a card for yourself and your husband. Every time you use it in a slot machine, you get points that give you credit at the end of your stay. They can take the price off of your room, you can get maybe a free meal or discounted.

*M & M World (yes, the candy!
) located next to MGM. Kinda a cool museum type place to wander around
*Ethel M's Chocolate Factory, where you can see chocolate made and sample it, too. Outside is a wonderful cactus garden with dozens of varieties. Definitely worth a look.
*The Freemont Experience has gotten mixed reviews here but we liked it. Almost like an outdoor museum with old vegas memorabilia, plus live shows etc.
Also, be sure you at least drive by Hoover Dam, even if you don't take the tour. Valley of Fire State Park is also nearby with incredible, stunning scenery.
