Dream Come True

When I was 14 years old (1981) I took my first trip to Hawaii and stayed on Kauai for two weeks.

It was so magical and one of the best experiences of my young life. I thought to myself, "if I ever have a honeymoon this is where I want to go." Now 25 years later my dream is coming to fruition! I plan to go on my honeymoon at the end of October this year!

Now I know there will be tremendous change, but it's almost been so long I can vaguely remember things....so it will be a new trip.

I also know that it will be wet that time of year, but I don't care. More rainbows!

Fodorites and Kauai lovers, tell me where you'd stay if you wanted the following:

luxury accommodations
some privacy
more adult oriented (less family oriented)

Any other advice (I've read a lot of the posts--thanks Sistahlou) would of course be welcome.

Thankful Bride in Seattle!

Congratulations!

I've never been to Kauai but have always wanted to stay here:

And you want to go back?

I would consider a house or cottage rental with all the bells and whistles!

Here are some rental agents:

www.balihai.com
www.kauaivacationrentals.com
www.kauairentals.com
www.grantham-resorts.com
www.napaliprop.com

If you're set on a hotel, I would look into the Hyatt or the Princeville.

Congrats.

jammer... :))

The only prob w/ any luxury hotel/resort locations there may more kids there so it may not meet your adult oriented req.

Mucho mahalos!

buongiorno kal,
shouldn't you be planning your italia trip instead of lingering around this forum? :D
and save some of that vino you're bound to bring back for a hell-hole GTG!!!

Kal Aug 10th, 2006 11:51 AM

We're all set for Italy.
Just need to find out how I can take my BIG OL' water bottle on a plane so I'm not stuck drinking yucky plane bilge water!

sistahlou Aug 10th, 2006 12:49 PM

Aloha and Mahalo for your kind words sfsaf, the Bride in Seattle!

As far as luxury, you have 2 choices for resorts, Hyatt or Princeville. I like the idea of taking the time to research private rentals which would be a more romantic experience in my opinion. So many adventures on the island, ready to be had. So either go with one of the top 2 resorts or start googling and see what you find!

BTW, just cureous, is this a new husband or the one you took for a quick getaway with your dog in 2005?

Happy hunting and happy honeymoon!

iamq Aug 10th, 2006 03:57 PM

Sistah Sherlock?

sistahlou Aug 10th, 2006 04:35 PM

must be something in the water!

sfsaf Aug 10th, 2006 04:45 PM

LOL!! I'd forgotten about that Sistah!

Ha, ha! It IS the same (lucky) man, who I have lovingly referred to as my husband (since we've been together for nine years!!) but we are now officially getting married and having a proper honeymoon! (Don't want to hear any "why bother's"--I'm a romantic can't you tell!)

You are a sleuth indeed! And I'm printing out your posts to take with me!

I'd no idea how many posts I've made on this board. Wow... And now I know why..you are all so great and resourceful. (We're doing Italy next year, so I'm paying attention.)

I'm thinking we'll break it up with a few nights at a rental and then a few nights at one of the lux hotels. Best of both worlds. And I am a hedonist.

Mahahlo for all the good feedback!

Still giggling....

We stayed here:

Kai O Honu was the most amazing place we'd ever stayed on Kauai. It has zone A/C which is a nice option. The ocean lulls you to sleep. You can watch the sea turtles. There's nothing like taking a shower in that lava rock shower even though you feel a little exposed. :D It's gated and the pool and hot tub are nice to just sit in and watch the ocean for hours. If you're one of those people that likes to get in a little workout, they've got a univeral gym.

I'd highly recommend it!

My suggestion is to stay at Hale O' Wailele

Hi Sfsaf,

My husband and I went to Kauai for our honeymoon last year. We stayed at the Hyatt in Poipu and at this condo in Princeville:
www.vbro.com/23935

The owners are very pleasant to deal with. There are tons of pictures on their direct website www.kauaisealodgecondos.com.

The condo is simply divine - the bed nestled into a corner with two windows with that view is just so wonderful. We loved it and will definitely stay there on our next visit to Kauai. The Hyatt in Poipu was wonderful too, difficult to leave! We felt both were luxurious. More privacy at the condo and the hotel did have some children in the pool area - but I'm personally sensitive to being annoyed by children and did not experience that the entire trip. I was either too into bliss from honeymooning or the kids there were just nicely behaved :)

Congrats on your upcoming nuptuals!

sfsaf Oct 19th, 2006 12:01 PM

We leave tomorrow and decided on the Grand Hyatt in Poipu for 6 nights. Will give the full report when we return!

I hope the honeymoon goes as well as the wedding did!

Congratulations! Of course it will go as well as the wedding if not better ...Happy Honeymoon in Paradise!!

sistahlou Oct 19th, 2006 07:00 PM

You sure you two kids don't need a chaperone? personal driver and guide?

Safe journey and happy honeymoon. I highly recommend both!

Good times indeed!
