Downtown LV steakhouse

Hello all:

We are planning to go for dinner one night downtown (we are staying at teh Flamingo) and want to see the lightshow. Which restaurant is better: Binion's Horshoe or the Redwood in Hotel California? Looking for a nice (reasonably priced) steak dinner for four adults.

Thanks.

I have eaten at Binion's Horseshoe twice. The view is wonderful from there. The steaks are excellent. The service was outstanding. I must admit they almost had to drag me downtown the first time, and I went with a chip on my shoulder, having to leave the strip. But it ended up being one of my best dining experiences in Vegas -- in fact that's why we went back the second time. It is nothing "novelle", but a really outstanding old fashioned, atmospheric, steak house.

Dittos here on Binion's. Great steaks, traditional Vegas atmosphere. A must do on my list for visiting Vegas.

While I love downtown Vegas for gambling, I believe the better restaurants are along the strip (IMHO). Gallagher's in NYNY or Smith & Wolensky's (sp?) along the strip are far superior to either one you've mentioned. Again, it's all about personal preference. Enjoy! PS: However, the $4 (approx) late night steak at Binions is still one of the better deals in Vegas.

That's part of the lure, Pumpy. $4.99 New York Strip, baked potato and salad. Fun to sit at the 'bar' downstairs and eat with the locals too.

Happy Trails,
Paul

Gee, are you guys talking about the "rooftop" Binions? It wasn't cheap. Steaks were more in the $30 range as a I recall, but really great. And we talked with our waiter who had been there for something like 20 years. On the strip even at the best places you're lucky to get a server who has been working more than a month and who has yet learned which side to serve from, or not to remove one plate until all are finished.

Yea, just looked up our records from last summer. Four of us spent $190 for dinner at Binion's. We had some decent wine. Not complaining, it was well worth it, just doesn't sound like a $4.99 steak place.

My first steak dinner at Binions was $1.99....Steak, baked potato, salad and roll! I had to wait in line for about 2 hours but it was well worth it!

I'm referring to the restaurant in the basement. It's the same restaurant they give out "Comp" passes to eat at.

The Pasta Pirate in the California hotel has a great Steak special, great service and nice atmosphere. One of LAs Vegas's hidden gems.

The Redwood Grille in the same hotel also has a decent special (porterhouse I believe), but is a little more pricey.
