Downtown Los Angeles w/o car

Is there a good way to visit Getty Center and the LACMOA from downtown, without a car?

Public transportation will get you to either place. I chose 333 S. Grand Avenue (Wells Fargo Tower) as my starting place, and used mta.net to get a trip to Getty Center.

MTA Metro Rapid 720 to Wilshire and Westwood, then Metro Rapid 761 heading to Lakeview Terrace. Get out at Getty Center.

To travel those 16 miles, this will take up more than an hour of your time and cost $2.50.

LACMA is a much shorter and easier trip. 6 1/2 miles, it will take between 20 and 30 minutes on the bus (Metro Rapid 720, heads down Wilshire).

Are these the "good ways" to get to these places? Sure. Think of it as a transit adventure!

The "best way" would of course be in a limo with fully-stocked bar, taking you to both places and then to the various LA hot spots. Renting a car is fine-- both drives are ridiculously easy-- but you'll have to factor in the rental cost plus hotel parking plus parking near LACMA (parking at Getty Center is free, but you need to make reservations).

I don't know if you've lost your other post on this topic, but you did get one reply there that may help. If you can't find it, just click your name at the very top of this page.

You don't need reservations to park at the Getty Center.

Barbara: You're right! It has been a little while since I was last there, and they've eliminated the reservations system-- AND the free parking. The website (www.getty.edu) says it costs $7 per car now.

How times change.

Nice place for lunch, though.
