Downtown Flagstaff Hotel
 

I am heading out to the Grand Canyon in June and I will be using Flagstaff as a stopover before driving up to the canyon the following morning.
I would like to stay somewhere as close as possible to Downtown.
I have stayed in Flagstaff once before, at the Best Western Kings House, this was fine but the walk back to the hotel late at night after a meal and few drinks was a little too far.
Anyone know of anything closer to the action? It must have a car park.

The Hotel Monte VIsta is right in downtown and only a block away from the main square (Heritage Square). It is a nicely restored hotel from the old days, that has a lot of charm. Plus it's right near everything you want.

If you go to the main tourist site for Flagstaff (do a Google search), and click on "Places to Stay", you'll find it in 3 seconds.

Have a great time. Flagstaff is a lovely place.

The Monte Vista and the Weatherford Hotel are the only two I can think of that are in the heart of downtown. Both are old, historic properties that have been at least partially renovated. Since you've been in Flagstaff before, you probably know that train noise can be heard throughout the downtown area. (It sounds romantic to me during the day, but loses its charm when I'm trying to sleep.)

The Monte Vista looks good but I dont really fancy paying that much.
It doesnt have to be right in the heart of downtown, just a bit closer than the best western we stayed in last time(1560 East Route 66).
I seem to remember a number of motel type places on East Route 66 that we walked past on the way from the hotel in to the town.
Anyone have any ideas?

You might also want to consider staying in Williams, Arizona instead of Flafstaff. It's about 30 miles west of Flagstaff on I-40 and the GC is a straight drive north from there.

The Grand Canyon Steam Railroad also departs daily from Williams to the GC.

Do you know the Town House Motel (122 West route 66)?
The location seems to be excellent nut the hotel itself looks very average.

I think I might consider Williams for my night before the Grand Canyon and Flagstaff on the way back from the Canyon before driving to Vegas.
How does downtown Williams compare with Downtown Flagstaff? Will there be places to eat (not fast food) and bars?
It will be a Friday night.

If nightlife is important to you, you really want to be in Flagstaff rather than Williams. Flag has a variety of interesting restaurants, including several good ethnic places. Also many great bars and microbreweries, and I know you'll find live music on a Friday night.
Town House is just on the edge of downtown and within very easy walking distance. You'd stay for the location, definitely not the amenities. I'll come up with a list of other ideas and send it to you.

I have actually just made a booking with priceline.
I got the Radisson Woodlands for $58 dollars a night which seems like a really good deal to me.
It looks about a 10 minute walk to Downtown which is fine for us.

You will like the Radisson--I stayed there in April as a base for Flag, Sedon and Grand Canyon. It is a bit of a hike to downtown, but not bad. It also has a very good Japanese restaurant and sushi bar in the hotel, and sauna/hot tub which was very nice after hiking all day. Be sure to go to Charly's bar in the Weatherford hotel downtown--very cozy, friendly folks, good beer selection, good food.

pegelicious - How far from downtown would you say the Radisson is? Mapquest has it as 0.8 miles.
