Downtown Disney close, decent hotel to stay at?
I'll be heading to House Of Blues Downtown Disney in a few weeks and need a recommendation on a nearby hotel/motel, prefer under $80, and possible transportation to/from downtown disney. Is this possible? Feel free to email at [email protected]

You may want to check out the Hilton. it is directly across the street from downtown disney and frequently offers very low rates (we got rooms there for about $75 through one of the hotel sites - maybe travelocity? - about a year ago). it's just the basic Hilton - nothing special - but fine as long as you're not looking for luxury.

Like the Hilton, the Grovesnor Resort is across the street from Disney Marketplace and an easy walking distance to Downtown Disney. The Grovesnor is fine, nothing fancy, with the tower rooms nicer (and more expensive as you get higher with a better view) than the 2 storey wing rooms. I've seen some good deals; try their own website as well. There is free Disney bus transportation to all of the Disney resorts and parks in front of the hotel. The restaurant at Grovesnor had a good breakfast buffet.

Last fall we stayed at the Ramada right outside the gate. We had to walk a block or two, but it wasn't bad. The rooms were decent and the staff friendly. I think we paid between $75-90 a night.
Have fun!

Hi,
I am a travel agent and I do a lot of Disney vacations - try the Port Orleans Riverside or Port Orleans French Quarter. They are Disney hotels and have rates of $89 per night for most dates from mid-April to early July.
Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions!
Best Regards,
Julia

I just checked biddingfortravel.com, the companion site for priceline.com and found this information about the Wyndham Palace Resort. A bid of $65 a night was accepted by the Wyndham in early - to me that's "in a few weeks."
Resort* WDW Wyndham Palace Resort $65 5/7-5/10/04 3 nts

I got my first bid of $65 accepted! I was very suprised because I usually don't bid so far in advance and I have only seen Gaylord come up for $85 lately. Sounds like I was pretty lucky to get this! I am excited to visit this resort!
Biddingfortravel is a wonderful resource when using Priceline, I am so happy I found your site!

Another vote for Grovesnor. I think it was a block stroll to Downtown Disney. Huge room with separate little area for sink and full size ironing board. We had a view of the parking lot but it was a great deal and a really nice place to stay. Nice pool with little poolside snack bar (burgers, etc.) I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

If you can swing the Port Orleans hotels I would recommend that. House of Blues is on the far left side of Downtown Disney. Hotel Plaza (where the Grovesnor, Wyndam and Hilton are) are on the far right side. While it's a nice walk might not be too fun at the end of the night. If you stay on Disney property, specifically Port Orleans, you would just have to walk over to the marketplace and catch a boat back to you hotel.

I've stayed at the Hilton and Grovesnor in Downtown Disney. I prefer the Hilton, but Grovesnor may be cheaper in price. If you do stay at the Grovesnor, be sure to get a tower room. We had the courtyard rooms and it was noisy, room wasn't to clean, and we could feel a cold breeze from the doorway. Not to totally knock the Grovesnor, but I would definitely request a tower room next time.
