Downtown Denver Hotel at Xmas

I am taking my son to an Avalanche hockey game at Christmas. Will be there from Dec.22 - 26. I was planning on staying at the Westin Tabor Center, but have read some poor reviews lately. Has anyone stayed there lately? Also does anyone have a suggestion for Christmas dinner downtown?

Marla have not been to the Westin, but think about the Brown Palace for dinner, http://www.brownpalace.com/ and perhaps lodging, also the Oxford
http://www.theoxfordhotel.com/
and The Hotel Teatro
http://www.hotelteatro.com/

All are histoic landmarks with more flavor than the westin

Have not stayed at the Westin, but can offer the Adams Mark(right on the 16th St. Mall) or the Embassy Suites (on 17th St.?-easy walk). Maybe not for Christmas dinner, but during your stay there is a brewery right on 16th St that my kids enjoy, and an ESPN Zone.At the Intersection of I-25 and Colorado Blvd is a Dave and Busters(eats and arcade) that can be fun. Go Avs!

Marla,

I don't know how the Westin is these days but the location is good and, if you got a good rate, I'm sure it will be just fine. Depending on what you're paying, I would also check out The Brown Palace Hotel. It's a four-star that is absolutely beautiful during the holiday season. Check to see if they're offering any specials during the time you're in Denver.

As far as Christmas dinner goes, many places are closed that night and the ones that are open are often booked waaay ahead. Whether you end up staying at "The Brown" or not, you may wish to check out their restaurant "The Palace Arms" for Christmas dinner. It's a beautiful Napoleonic room that serves excellent continental cuisine. It's expensive but very special and I'm sure their open that night.

You can go to www.brownpalacehotel.com to check the place out but for reservation info (and rates) I would suggest calling them--you almost always get better rates over the phone. Their number is 800-321-2599.

Hope this helps,

Davidcs

Thanks for your replies but I'm afraid all the above hotels are out of my price range. Westin has a special on for 85.00 a night during this time and no other hotels come close to that deal! I just hope the hotel is nice! I am hoping their restaurant is open if I can't find another restaurant to go to on Christmas Day.

Marla again try the "Brown" for dinner its wonderful! Racking my brain for other ideas but cannot think of another place that I would spend the holidays in Denver. You may need to make reservation soon though. Its pretty popular at that time of year.

Did you try the Marriott City Center? It is very centrally located and at other times of the year (not sure about christmas?) they have excellent rates.

Marla,
There is a wonderful Italian restaurant at the Adams Mark, that we have enjoyed for Christmas Dinner. Also, downtown is the Trinity Grill, but not sure if open on Christmas. See the lights at the Civic Center and enjoy your holiday

Hi Marla. You can get a great rate of $100 per night at the Brown Palace Hotel for that time period. Go to www.quikbook.com and do a search for Denver and you will see the quote. I think Quikbook also has the Teatro for $135. Good luck and enjoy. Oh, and a great place to go for dinner is the Vesta Dipping Grill. Have a great trip!

Marla,

Snohflake is right! Quikbook does have a rate available of $100 per night during those dates at "The Brown." For an extra $15 per night you should NOT pass this up. It is truly a beautiful hotel--especially at Christmas time.

Thanks to all who replied. I ended up booking with my original idea, The Westin Tabor Center. I would have enjoyed staying at the Brown Palace but I'm not sure my son would have as there is no pool. This is a surprise Xmas gift and he has no idea yet! We are from Canada and this will be his first trip on a plane and first trip to US.
This will be my first trip flying into US and the Denver airport kind of scares me, I just hope I can find my way of there and make it to the hotel!
I was planning on taking the Super Shuttle. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Not sure why your afraid of the denver airport? It's big but has good signage. Just take the train to baggage, its the last stop. There you will find monitors with baggage claim info. the super shuttle will be fine no worries!
