Doubletree Times Square
Anyone stayed here? Got a good rate for the week after Christmas. Any suggestions as torooms, floors, or places for kids to eat nearby?(I know it;s Times Square, but haven't been in years!)
|
Stayed there a few years ago. can't beat the location. Nice, clean, and comfortable. Can't recall right off food for kids but it shouldn't be too hard in times square. Be sure to check out the Toys R Us store, there is a ferris wheel inside the store!

THanks for the info... can I ride the ferris wheel too?
|
Anyone (i.e., adults too) can ride the ferris wheel. It's cheap too, like $2.75 or something like that. Be sure to get your tickets first (in case there's a queue for the fw), then browse the store.

I was there the week of Christmas last year and the place was packed and they were selling tix to the fw hours in advance. Luckily, there wasn't a long queue and they let us on (even though our tix were for a later time slot). Have fun!

It's a fantastic location, the subway stop is right out the door. Times Square is going to be really packed the week after Christmas, but, hey, it's Times Square so it's always packed. The Polish Tea Room is a nice little diner that's probably the cheapest food you'll find in Times Square, also fun for some celeb sightings (last time I was there I saw Kristin what's her name from Third Rock from the Sun, and the diner was in the first episode of Sex and the City this year)
That being said, most of Times Square is run over by chain restaurants: there are TGIF's, Applebees, Pizza Hut, etc all over the area. Personally that's not my taste, but with kids sometimes you gotta do it.
Have a lot of fun, email me if you want more info.
Dan

Judy,
What kind of rate did you get?, and how did you book it? We're thinking about going that week too!

We stayed there two years ago during Easter week. There was a special on their website, so I would try that first - at that time I think we paid under $200/night. Rooms are great for families, but if you want a double/double room, most of them are located on the other side of Broadway, so when you check in, make sure you tell them you want to be able to see down for the "Times Square" view. The first room they assigned us had no view at all, so we returned to the front desk and, although we had to wait about another hour, they came through with a room so we could see all the yellow cabs heading down Broadway and all those kids gathered in front of MTV - something our teenagers were thrilled about! We actually watched TRL on the tv and had the actual view, as well as the time delayed picture on the tube!
Your kids might enjoy Lori's Diner where the waiters sing and you can't go wrong with Ray's Pizza - which you can just take back to the room for lunch! Depending on the ages of your kids, try Jekyll & Hyde, Hard Rock Cafe and Mars 2012 for some real atmosphere. The food isn't spectacular, but the kids will love it.

I had my children in to see a show in the summer. Surprisingly enough, we ended-up eating at the main restaurant at the Marriot Marquis- 8th floor (I believe the Doubletree is across the street). I don't know how old your children are, but the kids meal was great and reasonable (approx. 6.75 for drink, meal and dessert). That's my two cents!

Judy,
Your kids will love John's Pizza--it's about a 5-10 minute walk from the Doubletree. The restaurant is located in an old church so the atmosphere is interesting and the pizza better than decent. As for rooms--go high and you won't hear street noise.

Hi Lisa, this is Judy, I got my rate by going onthe doubbletree site, then calling the hotel IN NYC not the 800 number and kept asking for "is that the best we can do? I got all three nights for $180 a night- very competetive Ithought with other places who don't offer the suite. THanks for the info about the rooms, Cathy.
THanks for the info about the rooms
