Doubletree Suites, Boston: Have you stayed here?

Has anyone stayed here? How was it? We're looking at spending the day at the Boston Science Museum, any suggestions on getting there without actually driving into the city? Thanks.

Oops, sorry, that's the Double tree Boston/Waltham.

Drive Rt. 2 east to the Alewife T station. Park there and take the red line to Park St. Transfer to the Green line to Science Park station. Walk the one block to the museum. Have fun!!!

Thanks!! Any idea on the cost for the parking and the T?

I believe parking at Alewife is now $4.50. The T costs $1.00 per person, each way .
www.mbta.com

If you take MBTA from Alewife, stop and have dinner at Summer Shack - across the street from Alewife MBTA stop. Excellent seafood in informal setting.

Driving from Waltham to the Museum of Science, via Storrow Drive, doesn't really constitute driving "in the city." The museum has a huge parking garage, which rarely gets filled, whereas the parking garage at Alewife, like all the T garages, fills up before 8 AM on weekdays.

In addition, the parking rates at the museum aren't that high, and you could well spend less on parking there, than you would on parking at Alewife and then $2 per person round trip of the subway.

Finally, you have to ride two different subway trains (Red Line from Alewife to Park Street, then Green Line to Science Park). All in all, it's much less hassle to just drive to the museum.

One word of advice: Don't use Mapquest for directions, they'l send you to Mass General Hospital rather than the MOS!!

If it's a nice day, and you park @ Alewife, consider getting off the T (Red Line) at MGH/Charles & walking up along the river (Storrow??) to the MOS.

We've always found spaces (even on weekdays) at the Riverside T station, but the fare into town is $2.25 ($2.50?) into town, but only $1 on the return. The trains stop at Science Circle & Lechmere, so no change necessary.

I have to agree that driving into the Museum is not such a bad ordeal. But, I think Memorial Drive is an easier route than Storrow.

There is a commuter train station in Waltham. Take the train to north station, transfer to the green line to science park station and your there. This is how we did it and it was simple.

Thanks for everyone's help. We're now leaning toward driving and parking at the MOS. From what I understand, we WILL spend the entire day there. I never did hear from anyone who had stayed at the hotel....Hope it's ok.

Just thought I'd let you all know, the DoubleTree in Waltham is beautiful! A very nice, clean hotel. The kids had a blast at the pool, the adults loved the hot tub and the drive into Boston was painless. Thanks for all the suggestions
