DoubleTree Oceanfront recent experience?

I am staying for a long day prior to a cruise and want to be near the Waterbus and a good pool for $200-$100/night. I have two boys 10 & 12. is this DoubleTree a good fit? Thanks

There are only 2 hotels in Ft. Lauderdale that are on the ocean and have great pools. They are the Marriott Harbor Beach(expensive), and the Lago Mar, which have 1 br. suites in the spring and summer for about $150/nt. The water taxi does not stop at either, but is not far. The next best pool would be the Hyatt Pier 66, which is on the intercoastal(water bus stops here), and is also very close to the port. This might be your best bet.The doubletree does not have a great pool area.

Oops. Fort Lauderdale. Thanks jd. We do not care about the beach, but do care about a nice pool and the water taxi to get around.

We are in Ft. Lauderdale for a day before and a day after a cruise. What areas should we focus on for a mixture of boy fun (car museum?) and shopping fun? We will be there on July 3rd.

All help is appreciated!

The Hyatt would probably be your best bet if you want to be on the water taxi route. The Marriott Harbor Beach is a very short walk to the water taxi, so if you can get this in your price range, the boys might like the pool better. As for shopping, take the water taxi to River Walk-there are lots of shops, movie theatre, and game place. There is also Beach Place, an outdoor Mall right across the street from public beach. There is also a childrens museum on the water taxi route that has an Imax theatre.

Take the boys to the Museum of Discovery and Science (at the end of the water taxi route.) They have loads of hands-on exhibits and they'll enjoy it. The IMAX Theater is at the same location and they might have a cool movie playing. If you've never been to an IMAX theater, it's quite an experience.

Take a stroll along the river to River Walk a short distance away and have a nice dinner. Shirttail Charlies is also near this area across the river (no problem getting across the river, they have their own boat and you'll have the Water Taxi, too.) I love the food at Shirttail Charlie's, but it's mostly seafood and can be pricey.

Hyatt Pier 66 is a great hotel on the Water Taxi Route and you can get a good deal on Priceline.com (check BiddingForTravel.com for going rates.) I live in Ft. Lauderdale and will be happy to help with any questions you may have. My email addy is [email protected]
