Doubletree Metropolitan or Hampton Inn

We are coming to NYC for a long weekend. I am looking for a reasonably priced hotel near Rockefeller Center. I don't need fancy---just a clean and safe place to stay. I am looking at the Hampton Inn or the Doubletree Met. Any ideas??

Thanks!

PS. I know some of you will suggest not staying in that area but I will have my young daughter with me. We want to be within walking distance of American Girl Place, Rockefeller Center, etc. Thanks!

I love staying in the area. What's wrong with staying in a touristy area when you're a tourist in NYC!?!?! I never understand the grouchies on this one. One idea is to check www.betterbidding.com to see what 4*MTW hotels are going for.

If rates are too high, you may want to see what the rates are like for www.applecorehotels.com.

Have a blast!

I live here, so I've never stayed at either hotel, but I love the location of the Doubletree on Lexington Ave, clsoe to all things Rockefeller and on top of a convenient subway stop.

Doubletree was recently remodeled, and I *think* the HI is failry new. I would pick the Doubletree only becasue I personaly like the location and I think the hotel might be a tiny bit nicer than the HI. Are they close in price?

What about the Radio City apartments? You can't get much closer to Rock Ctr. than that and it's a good budget option with kitchenettes.

Of your choices, the Hampton Inn I think would be closer to Rock Ctr. The Salisbury is another good option in a great location not far from Rock Ctr.

Just a heads up that Priceline will not guarantee 2 beds in a room (nor rooms for more than 2) so may not be a good option for you on this trip.

What's wrong with 1 bed for a mom and young daughter?

Nothing, but there was no way to tell that was the case based on this post.
