Doubletree Boston Bayside Or Doubletree Boston Downtown?
 

My husband and I are trying to decide between the Doubletree Boston Bayside or Doubletree Boston Downtown Hotels. We will be driving into Boston, and would leave our car at the hotel. We will be doing plenty of sightseeing and would like to be in a safe neighborhood. We would also like a clean and modern room or suite. Thanks in advance.

Don't know about rooms at either, but the Bayside is not near anything, even transportation. There have been some posts about Doubletree downtown recently - should show up on a search. This hotel is on the fringe of a somewhat seedy area - (Chinatown, hospitals, a few "adult" bookstores) - but it is the fringe and can easily be avoided by going in the other direction. When you do, you are within walking distance of many things, easy MBTA ride to others.

The Bayside is near a convention center and not much else, it would be a hike to see anything for tourists except the JFK Library. <BR><BR>The neighborhood of the Downtown isn't so bad, it used to be really terrible but now is dominated by a mix of Chinatown, medical schools and theater stuff, he seedy stuff has nearly all been closed down. Sort-of like Boston's version of Times Square, but without Disney. Very convenient to attractions and public transit.

The Doubletree Bayside IS near public transportation. It's actually just down the street (1/4 of a mile or so) from the JFK/UMASS T station.<BR>Personally, I would prefer to stay in the city. The area is fine, just use common sense like you would in any large city. <BR>Have a great time!

We stayed at the downtown location last summer through Priceline ($69 night). It was a very nice hotel with a great bathroom! The location is fine - the T is only a few blocks over. Its near the New England School of Law and several theaters. There's also a really seedy bar right down the street that has $1 drafts and $1.50 shots on Saturday nights. Unfortunately I don't remember the name (or the walk back to the hotel!) Good stuff.

No question about it. Stay at the downtown Doubletree. Seedy? Gosh, the neighborhood fit that description many, many, MANY years ago --- what used to be called the 'Combat Zone' is no longer. You'll be fine.<BR>

Monica, My boyfriend and I just got rooms at the DT downtown thru Priceline for $80 a night the first week in June.
