Door-to-door shuttles from JFK to Chelsea area?

I'm staying in New York for two nights over the Fourth of July weekend at a hotel in the Chelsea area. Being on a budget, does anyone know of shared shuttles between JFK and the city? We have Super Shuttle in So. Calif. Is there something similar in NY? I'd like to pay no more than $30 and still have door-to-door service. Only need one-way. Thanks.

A train or subway ride would be even cheaper. Less than $5

Here's the link from the JFK website.

There are 2 shared shuttles, Super Shuttle and Airlink. Super Shuttle gets dreadful reviews by many. Their drivers are often not very good (get lost!) and the trip takes forever. They will sometimes wait to leave the airport until the bus is full which can sometimes take an hour. You'd be much better taking the Airport Express bus to Penn Station ($15/person) and taking a taxi from there OR they will offer door to door service for a few bucks more. But the buses are nicer and you won't get a grand tour dropping everyone else off.

It is true, if your hotel is near a subway stop, the AirTrain/subway costs $7/person from JFK but you have to be able to carry your luggage up and down stairs.

Thank you. That's exactly the information I needed.

The last time I used one of the shuttles from Manhattan to LaGuardia I had to get up an hour early because of all the pickups. A 1-hour trip took 2 hours and yes, I really thought we were lost at one point. The Airport Express bus/cab option is faster (and easier on the nerves).
