Door County lodging

Planning a trip in early October to WI and MI. We plan to spend 2 nights in Door County and need suggestions for lodging. I’d prefer a nice room with a view of the bay. We stayed in Ephraim 7 years ago, so maybe try another village. Thinking Sister Bay, but open to other suggestions.

We’ve settled on SISTER BAY...looking at Church Hill Inn, Birchwood Lodge, or Goose & Twigs for lodging. Thoughts?? I’d also appreciate restaurant suggestions...for carryout, most likely. :)

We went up to Door County when we lived in Chicago, a wonderful place to spend a weekend. It is often compared to Cape Cod but we thought it looked more like Maine.
We stayed in Sister Bay too but I can't remember the name of our hotel. Go to a fish boil for dinner one night.

You might get away with haggling down the price since occupancy is pretty low in October in Door County. There is a graph for it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Door_C...nsin#By_season

Fish boils are nice, but if so you'll need to accept that lake whitefish from the great lakes will contain PCBs. Lake Superior fish have less PCBs than Lake Michigan though. Al Johnson's closes in mid-October, so if you have your heart set on it, plan ahead now to make it work. In Sturgeon Bay, Scaturo's is known for their take-out--I especially would recommend their baked cheesy green beans.

The Piggly Wiggly Super Market has affordably priced food and is somewhat more upscale in feel than most Piggly Wigglys. You will be able to find cheese from smaller cheesemakers on the shelves there.

If you are flexible about when you come you might pay attention to https://www.travelwisconsin.com/fall-color-report and decide to travel on a shorter notice. If you book reservations now, you might get locked too early/late for best color.

N8826WRjd - welcome to Fodor's. I've noticed that you've been topping a lot of old threads. FYI the OP took this trip in October 2020.

Whoops. Thanks for letting me know.

We plan on going mid-October too, as our son is working in Green Bay area. Planning to stay in Fish Creek at:

White Gull Inn
Juniper Inn
Fish Creek Motel & Cottages
Main Street Motel

These are per Moon guide for Wisconsin, and the latter two are not the typical roadside motel, and highly reviewed.

We'll probably treat ourselves to the White Gull as we're only staying 2-3 nts and will dine there too. -- Aha, just noticed you'll not be in Fish Creek!
