Don't you wish you were a Mavs fan?

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban gave free RT American Airline tickets last night at the game - 20,000 of them. Lucky fans can use the tickets to fly from Dallas to San Antonio, Austin, Kansas City or St Louis.

American Airlines gave the tickets, not Mr Cuban. The tickets are for travel from Dallas Love Field...The Dallas Morning News article quoted a source that estimated only 25% of ticket recipients would even use the vouchers.

Dayle Apr 20th, 2006 09:31 AM

Not really, as I have no desire to go to any of those cities.

CAPH52 Apr 20th, 2006 09:45 AM

And will they have to pay tax on them?

jbass Apr 20th, 2006 11:17 AM

No, I'd rather be a losing Timberwolves fan -- what a season. I heard the tickets were just for one way ......??

Kath Apr 20th, 2006 11:35 AM

No, they were round trip.

GeorgeW Apr 20th, 2006 12:39 PM

It would be nice to be a Mavs fans until they play San Antonio in the Western finals.

karens Apr 20th, 2006 02:40 PM

Why could they fly to St. Louis? What does that have to do with the NBA?

And, actually, I wish I could be anything but a 76ers fan with the disappointing season they had this year.

Per a knowledgable source, the deal was to publicize American Airlines' usage of Love Field, a smaller Dallas airport. The 4 cities are the flights served by AA from Love Field.
An additional Mavs/AA tie-in is the arena is called the American Airlines Center.

Just my two cents, but if I were given a "free" roundtrip ticket to go anywhere, I would take it and run. It's free airfare and might award a change of scenery, of nothing else. It might not be glamorous, but will suerly be different. :)

I guess my living on an 8-square mile island and actually having enough "rock fever" to apply for a job in Dubai in the past might have someting to do with it, though. ;)

Kansas City, here I come!!! :D

Do we have any Fodorites that were fortunate enough to get in on this deal?

BeachBoi Apr 21st, 2006 05:05 AM

American initially offered free tix to Mavs players and all staff members, as a reward for the Mavs making the NBA playoffs. So before the game, Cuban approached the AA contact and asked well hey why not give EVERYONE in the arena a ticket.Who can say no to da Cuban?? The "air fare" is free. The passenger pays security and airport fees. Now, who thinks that Southwest Airlines is gonna sit still!! Southwest has gone for the jugular....Ummm, make that the JUG...All passengers on flights out of Dallas Love Field will be offered 2 free drinks. WALLY WAKE UP!! :D...Today thru May 29....
