Don't Wanna Be Bored!
I'm planning a trip to Phoenix March 22-26. We are staying in Tempe. Does anyone know of some things that would be good for families to do in that area? (Two adults and two kids(ages 11 and 14))

Baseball spring training will in full swing! (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about this as I've been out of the baseball loop the past couple of years.) About half of MLB's teams' training camps are scattered all over the Phoenix area (the other half in Florida). The players, even the stars, are usually very accessible and friendly if you go early in the day to watch them do drills. There's no better place to be that time of year if you have a sports fan in the family.

You could rent the Pauly Shore movie 'Biodome' and then go visit the real place.

Thanx to both of you! Really good ideas.

March is a great time to be outside in PHX. If you are into hiking the PHX area is excellent. Try Camelback Mountain, Squaw Peak (AKA Piestewa Peak), South Mountain & many more. The Phoenix Zoo is very close to Tempe and quite nice. Next to the zoo is the Desert Botanical Gardens, also worth a visit (The kids may enjoy the zoo more). Spring training is a great idea. The Anaheim Angels play in Tempe, and the Oakland A's and SF Giants also play nearby. By the way, the it's actually called Biosphere, and is closer to Tucson than Phoenix. Mildly interesting, but not worth a drive from Phoenix just for that purpose. Have a good trip.

I also recommend the Desert Botanical Garden.
Also: the Heard SW Museum, Taliesen West, the Science Museum, the History Museum, jeep tour of the desert, the Indian excavations right in the city. |
