I rebooked at the Quality Hotel on the Beach in Clearwater. They make the same claim as Best Western (find a lower rate, we'll match it plus 10%). Well, Expedia was cheaper. I sent the claim form to Quality Hotel and within minutes received a reply saying, yes, they would match that price and deduct an additional 10%.

Proof once again that Best Western is just being shady in their business dealings.

I just got a reply back from Best Western regarding my email to them where I showed them this thread. Their reply has me rolling in the aisles:

"I apologize for your dissatisfaction and we regret any inconvenience you may have experienced.
We appreciate you taking the time to write. It is our goal to make Best Western the finest lodging chain in the industry."

No offer at all to try to satisfy the customer.

I can't stop laughing!! "It is our goal to make Best Western the finest lodging chain in the industry." Yeah, right.

Based on OO's input, you were given a gift. It's a good thing you aren't staying there. Say "thank you" to the Travel Gods that there was a problem and you are staying somewhere better now.

I agree. Move on.

Although a year later, I too, was duped by Best Western. I did a search on Fodors.com and found this old posting.

I booked the lowest rate bestwestern.com had on their website- $165-- it's the same for a king or a queen. Expedia had a queen or king in a "traditional" room for $140. I talked to asupervisor who denied my claim for the lower rate under their "lowest internet rate policy" because I booked a king, and with expedia you could get a queen or a king. Makes no difference because BOTH bed types were more expensive than expedia. They argue the room type includes the type of bed you get. I argued the room type was a traditional room versus a deluxe room. They said a traditional queen is different from a traditional king room. Give me a break!

I filed a claim with the BBB, but then I called the hotel directly, and they adjusted the rate for me.

This is an absolutely unfair and deceptive practice.

If it were me, I wouldn't want to stay there. Unless there is a specific reason why you need to stay at that hotel, I would cancel. With so many choices, we shouldn't have to work so hard to have companies honor their stated guarantees.

But anyway, good job on getting the rate down.

I'm sorry to just now reply. I didn't have time when I first ran across your comments and then just got busy and forgot all about it. I came back to Fodors to do some research and then I remembered. I hope it's not too late. I wanted to recommend The Quality Hotel On The Beach in Clearwater Beach. Very close to the dreaded Best Western Sea Wake except somewhat nicer and less expensive. This recommendation only applies, of course, if you are talking about the same Best Western I had previously complained about. I realize you could be talking about any BW anywhere.

I was very surprised that you stood your ground with them and got the refund. Mostly surpised that you agreed to keep your reservation with them. Experiences like that just turn me off from wanting to do business with them. I find there are too many other places that love to get my money that will do as they say. Don't even get me started about why I will never step foot in a Best Buy again!
