Dollar signs in the guide books.

I bought a Fodor's guide for my trip to Colorado on May 4th. I was unable to find a key that told what price ranges the little dollar signs stood for next to restaurant and hotel listings. Can anyone tell me what they are? We are traveling on a limited budget and this info would be very helpful. Thanks.

At the beginning of the lodging section there is a breakdown of the price range of a "S" hotel, a "SS" hotel, etc.

Also at the beginning of the dining section there is another price range given different numbers of dollar signs.

I guess you bought a Colorado guide. My guides for Florida, New York, and Chicago were all listed the way I stated above.

If you truly can't find the price ranges in your book, try looking up some hotels in each category on this site, in the hotels index. Prices there are given in dollar ranges, not $-$$$.
