Dog sled tours
Hello my new friends,
I am interested to hear opinions on which dog sled tours might be better than others. I know there is one in Denali and there are some options in the Southeast (day excursion from cruise). Thanks in advance! |
We took the inexpensive route on the dog sled tour as we were spending lots of money elsewhere. We went to the Iditarod HQ in Palmer. For $10 pp, you get a quick ride on a dog cart. Plus lots of dogs and puppies to pet. It took about 1 hour and was a fun part of our trip.

For clairfication the Sled Dog Headquarters/Museum is not in Palmer, it's in Wasilla. There are many options, fly in glacier dog sledding is available out of Seward, Seavey's Sled Dogs has a cart ride in Seward. Denali Park is a worthwhile option - free is great. :)

We did Godwin Glacier out of Seward last July. They fly you by helicopter to the glacier and you get to mush the sled for about 30 min. Of course, this is on snow (as opposed to rolling on grass). What a thrill - one of our most amazing and wonderful travel experiences. Really nice people, too. Claire

Thank you for the input. I just booked the hotels and cruise and now I am getting back into the fun stuff. I hadn't thought about actually riding on a sled- I just wanted to see and learn more about the dogs. The glacier ride does sound really cool.

For clairfication on the above, you do NOT "mush-drive" your own sled. You are attached together, 2 sleds with a professional driver. 2 riders in the basket, 1 on the breaks with switching off.
