DOG in TAHOE?
 

Can anyone recommend a nice resort/condo/etc in Lake Tahoe that would accept our 6 month old (probably 40 pound by then?) Golden Retriever puppy?! We have never had a dog before, and as a result never traveled with one, and are trying to plan our family's summer vacation. We don't want to leave the little guy for two weeks and are trying to plan a trip that includes him. No price limit. Beggars can't be choosers, right? :)

Go to www.dogfriendly.com. Type in Lake Tahoe and several resorts/condo/cabins will pop up. They have dog friendly accomodations in South and North Lake Tahoe areas.

If you are spending a week or so, you could check listings at vrbo.com with a "pet friendly" selection.

Since this isn't a national park it shouldn't be hard to find something.

There is a great place in south lake thaoe which also has access to the private beach called Three Peaks.

It's close to the casinos but it's down Park Ave so it's away from the main road. For a smaller lodge it has really nice grassy open area and it takes like a minute to walk to the beach, which is private for particiapting hotels. Actually I really think the area where it is located is nice. Feels kind of like a neighborhood.

Tahoma, on the west, side is super pet friendly. There are dogs galore.

Boy, this is timely! We recently returned from Lake Tahoe and saw LOTS of dogs at the brand-new Ritz-Carlton at Northstar-at-Tahoe. We asked our waitress about it - she said the Ritz-Carlton welcomes families with dogs. There are special rooms people who bring their dogs can reserve, and if they are "out" of those rooms, the hotel will gladly rent you one of the others and then charge steeply for that, she said!

We stayed in the Village, and saw many, many dogs with their owners, walking around. At the Ritz-Carlton, the dogs were even sitting or lying down by their master's sides at meals. We asked what happened when a dog barked or was not well-behaved, and our waitress said the Ritz-Carlton has a lot of tolerance for dogs, and that most people just smile or laugh when the dogs bark.

Our children really enjoyed seeing the dogs.

Indoors? I don't think that's legal in California.

Yes, indoors! There's an extremely spacious lounge area in the RC -- larger than you would think -- with clusters of seating where a family can sit and relax, and order dinner, served right there. There are lots of such clusters, well spaced around the very large lounge area. Enough space between them that each is private enough, and enough space within them that they are large enough. Soaring ceiling.

This is where families with young children eat dinner at night. It's the perfect solution when you don't have a condo with more room, and the kids aren't going to sit in the hotel restaurant dining room for a couple of hours. And this is where the dogs we saw were. At least four clusters near us had dogs, sitting or laying right beside an adult in the group. We had two girls in my family, age 11, and they LOVED seeing the dogs, so after dinner the girls made the rounds of the place asking permission to pet and then petting the dogs.

That's why we engaged our waitress in questions about the hotel allowing dogs. She said the hotel wants to accommodate its guests and if they want to bring their dogs the hotel will make that happen.

If illegal, they don't know it!
