Dog Friendly Crater Lake area lodging
Greetings-
We are looking for suggestions of dog friendly lodging near the south entry of Crater Lake. Plan to take a road trip from SF bay area up to OR next fall with our beloved Westie. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance J |
I think the Prospect Hotel in beautiful town of Prospect allows pets - besides its a fun place to stay - I usually stay there on winter trips to Crater Lake -
If all else fails- I will dogsit for you ( just kidding of course) - I love Westies |
Thanks SB
I will check out the Prospect... Anyone else have any suggestions?? BTW-how can you resist those Westies!! |
You may want to check in nearby Klamath Falls. Shilo Inn Suites Hotel is pet friendly (800) 222-2244) and also Crystalwood Lodge BnB (866) 381-2322) and Summer Lake Inn (541) 943-3983. There are also plenty of brand hotels in Klamath Falls. Search on www.PetTravel.com. All of our hotels are pet friendly.

Do the Prospect Hotel.
They have dogs and all the Motel rooms are Dog friendly They also have a great dinner house with Prime Rib to die for everynight! They are only 28 miles from the park! |

Thanks for the suggestion the hotel looks cute. Any other suggestions for areas to explore with the pup? We hope to find a few trails etc Thank you J |
right across the street from the hotel there is a trail - I have only been there in the winter so we did not explore far but it goes along the river - think there is a waterfall -
The Prospect also has an amazing breakfast they serve guests- and when we were there they prepared a sack lunch for us too but not sure if they only do that for groups- you'd have to ask. On the drive into the park there are some places to stop and walk - with waterfalls/ rushing rivers etc I have to think about the name of the area we stopped at - will get back with you on that. |
The NPS website has some pet information:
http://www.nps.gov/crla/planyourvisit/things2know.htm The pet information is on the lower right hand side, with a download. |
SB- That would be great to get the names of the falls area.
Thanks! PN- Thanks for the info Sounds like our hound is going to have a lot of fun |
If you'll be in Ashland, the Plaza Inn (http://www.plazainnashland.com/) allows pets and they are very accommodating. There's also a huge fenced dog park that we've walked to from the hotel (can't recall how far, but they hotel provided us with directions).

Its called the Rogue River Gorge at Union Creek - I remember just pulling off the road and parking and doing a walk - but I think there are many trails to do - friend says "there is a road just south of Union Creek that takes you to a parking lot, and from there you can take a short walk to a Natural Bridge" Apparently the water comes out from underground there.
Have not done that part of it myself - belong to a group that does an annual winter trip to Crater Lake and this was one of their stops this past winter. |
Thanks everyone
Think the Prospect is the winner Looking forward to exploring |
Besides those at Rogue River Gorge, there's Mill Creek Falls, very near Prospect, and Avenue of the Boulders, just downstream from the little bridge you'll cross before arriving in Prospect. I believe there are hiking trails connecting these two, and other points of interest.

Please vaccinate your dog for rabies and distemper before going. Coyotes and wolves (there are a few in Oregon) are getting distemper from domestic dog scat - even though we all pick up after our beloved pets, some is still left behind. Please, and tell your dog friends. It never occurred to me until a park ranger informed us.
