Maui airport preference

Does anyone have an opinion on which Maui airport is the better one to fly into from Honolulu? Kahului airport appears to be bigger but Kapalua airport is closer to where I will be staying.
Are the rental car facilities the same at each one?

Jets don't fly into Kapalua, only small prop planes. I don't think there are any car rentals right at the Kapalua airport but I think they will arrange to pick you up at the airport.

And as flights into Maui tend to be a bit bumpy due to the winds, you won't want to do the little planes into kapalua if you are a nervous flyer!

I believe Island Air has flights from Honolulu to Kapalua. It's non-jet service and my understanding is it's more expensive than flying Hawaiian or Aloha Air, into Kahului.

Where will you be staying: Kaanapali or Kapalua? If your stay is short, I'd fly into West Maui rather than Kahului. It's easy getting rental cars in either airport location. If you have some time, it's a nice scenic drive from Kahului. Depending on when you arrive, it may give you a chance to see some sights on that side of the island before you drive over to the other side. You might even lunch at either Mama's Fish House or Haliimaile General Store, both great restaurants, but a longish drive from the West side, especially at night.
