Does Boston have a Georgetown?

Will be in Boston for a brief visit later this month, and wonder whether there are any nice areas for an after-dinner stroll. An area with a number of places for drinks and/or dessert would be ideal. We're from Washington, DC, where Georgetown would fit the bill. I was thinking perhaps the North End. Would that be a good idea?

The North End would have the food/drinks you want but a different atmosphere than Georgetown - it is much busier, more congested. "Strolling" opportunities are somewhat impacted these days by the Big Dig - a lot of construction, big holes in the ground, construction debris - but it can also be fascinating to look to virtually the center of the earth at some of the observation areas.

Newbury Street area also a possibility - far fewer places to eat/drink, but good window shopping.

Newbury Street and the Back Bay area are definitely more like Georgetown and the North End is. Depends on your priorities -- Back Bay for townhouses and quaintness, North End for food.

Charles St/Beacon Hill is lovely for a stroll also. But the North End is your best bet for dessert.

Near the 4 Seasons/Park Plaza is a dessert restaurant called Finale that has desserts that are out of this world.

This is not exactly right since it's a different city, but I think Cambridge is Boston's Georgetown. It has the same feel and lots of restaurants and shop esp. in the Harvard area

But are there many good places to eat in Cambridge? My wife & I walked around Cambridge a couple of weeks ago and were not impressed with the restaurant selection. Granted, we may have missed a good row of restaurants, we were just randomly checking things out.

I'd suggest Back Bay, particularly Newbury and Boylston Streets. Have fun!
Second the vote for Back Bay- Newbury & Boylston Streets.

As someone who used to live in DC, I would say just about the entire city qualifies as being something like georgetown. Thats what I like about it. The Big dig won't be a big deal, and aside from that any of the places mentioned will suit.

I looked on a Map of Boston, and I didn't find anything called Georgetown. Sorry.
