I booked a room at the Shraton through priceline.com. The SHeraton is where the Ms America Pageant is held. It is a really nice hotel, but it is about five blocks away from the boardwalk. It has a shuttlebus though.

The room I booked was $45 a night for the weekend, but that was a bid through priceline, and it was a year ago. The hotel was very very nice- at least we thought so! It doesn't have a casino in it, but the shuttlebuss service tkaes you wherever you want to go!

Have a great time!

Fodorite,

I agree that travel boards should have both negative and positive comments but I think Todd is right here.

Do you find these comments worthwhile?:

"Why on earth would a group of women under the age of 70, not into polyester and not living in a trailer park want to go there?"

"If you go to NYC...you'll...surely be around a better class of people!"

Surely, there was a much better (and respectful) way to say they didn't like Atlantic City.

x, Yes there is always a more boring, dull and colorless way to explain things. I don't think this board can afford to get any duller than it is so let's hear it for some interesting commentary. I thought the description rather accurate. Stop trying to police what other people say here. It's ruining this forum!

Opinions are not ruining these boards-Nasty insults ruin boards.

There are plenty of towns in the US to bash for being tacky, boring, low rent, bad taste,cheesey...but like Las Vegas,Atlantic City is deliberately these things-that is why people go to these cities in great numbers. There are plenty of towns where you can go to a good restaurant, see a play/movie/museum and go to a cookie cutter hotel room, but where besides Las Vegas and Atlantic City can you walk from hotel to hotel, gamble at any level you wish,or not-see a show, eat in all levels of restaurants, stay in a variety of hotels in varying levels of luxury...and then often as not-drive home?
This is a matter of taste, the posting is regarding How To..if some of you try to keep your personal taste out of this and not insult each other about where and why you go places on vacations, then this will be an interesting post..

Hey everyone! Thanks Todd and njgirl!

I really don't mind hearing about the shady parts of AC - but you're preaching to the choir here. Like I said, we are all from NJ and have all been to AC before. We know what it has to offer (and doesn't).

It was the bride and the other MOH who decided to go to AC and everyone thinks it's a great idea (so no chance of anyone getting upset about the location).

We want to get our cheese on!! And it will be cheaper than a nice "classy" evening in NYC. We don't want NYC and class and nice restaurants anyway...we want somewhere where we can do shots, play some games, eat pizza and be cheesy and obnoxious!! That's what we feel this occasion is all about!

Basically, the decision has already been made - we are simply looking for someplace to stay. So thanks also to those of you who offered some ideas. We don't want to stay off the boardwalk and shuttle over, but a non-casino hotel is definitely an option.

No one was insulted. Methinks someone is a bit hypersensitive. No one called anyone a nasty name. No one insulted Ann. A few people merely gave their OPINIONS of a PLACE. Now that is not allowed? Are we only allowed to say good things about someplace?

I want opinions, good and bad when I travel. Please don't speak for everyone. If I post here about a destination I'm considering I welcome all perspectives, negatives and positives alike. I'm sorry if it offends you that not everyone likes Atlantic City. It is most DEFINITELY detrimental to this forum to stop people from expressing their opinions. If you can't see that I'm sorry too, then perhaps you lack the maturity to be participating here.

Ann, Glad to see that you want cheesy and know what to expect! Have a great time with the girls and good luck with the hotel search. Sorry I don't know much about the specific hotels in AC, but I have to believe that rooms will become available closer to your date.

Ann,

You could try the Howard Johnsons between the Trop and Hilton on the boardwalk. We have been there for a few functions, and it is not far fron Chelsea Pub and Tony's Baltimore Grill. Have fun, and bring bail money just in case!

Hey everyonen - I booked two king suites at the Quality Inn in AC as a backup. Has anyone ever stayed there? Is it a long walk to the boardwalk casinos? They claim is 1/10 of a mile, but who knows. Really, who knows?
