Congratulations, Nina, on your anniversary! How many years?
This has been a horrible spring on top of a horrific winter. My kids don't get out of school until the last week of June, due to snow days. So the only good thing I can say about the bad weather is: at least it is helping them stay focused, and feel like it's still the school year instead of summer vacation! They'll go back last week of August, and fall sports start two weeks prior. Not much of a summer vacation this year! |
Everyone here is complaining about the relentless rain, too, but I love everything about it. Right now, my windows are open to the chilled air. Another night of falling asleep to the sound of steady rain on my roof. Bliss.
|
Dreamer, thanks, 19 years! I start planning soon for a trip to celebrate the big one next year, which will be something really special, any suggestions?
Howitzer, too funny! I love that. Ouestion - What do you get after 6 days of rain in New England? answer - Monday. Arabella, I like falling asleep to rain too, it's the waking up to it part that is driving me nuts! I'm sitting here in jammies and a fleece pullover. It is June, isn't it? |
methinks the lousy weather is the result of the air pollution caused by Sadam when he destroyed all those WMD.
|
"methinks the lousy weather is the result of the air pollution caused by Sadam when he destroyed all those WMD."
ROTFL! Nice pulling of our leggs nina. Summer in Seattle, there's no other place I'd rather be on earth :) |
More likely for us SW Floridians would be, does anybody even know what winter was like? 92 in the shade, 86* gulf water temp....heading for Alaska to cool off in JulY! ;-)
|
Ahh, dear Nina, be careful what you wish
for-just returned from The FL Keys-sunny & humid at same degrees ! But, you can always jump in the water. (MeThinks this is like my onceuponatime fellow Denverites describing it as 'a dry cold').. OliveOyl-Sending you good wishes for a speedy recovery!! Now back in Sonoma County, my sweatshirt has replaced my camisole and the sun has yet to show-ah, well there is always the wine ! R5 |
Hey Nina, just in case misery really does love company..... I just got the summer forecast for upstate New York, and it reads like this.....
"RAIN ALL WEEKEND EVERY WEEKEND BEGINNING ON FRIDAY'S FOR THE SUMMER OF 2003..... BEAUTIFUL SUNNY BLUE SKIES MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY..." but I still love our glacier lakes... so remember .... dance in the rain and laugh along... soon you'll forget your sorrows..... |
Too much rain in NYC :( Pup has terminally curly hair. We are all moldy. The flowers gave up and drowned. I am so pale, you can't see me when I lie down on the white sheets :( Would someone please send some sunshine to NY? Michelle, I am afraid that that forecast is true (weep weep) |
anytime you forget what summer is like, come to Phoenix
|
Those of us, myself included, who complain about all the rain and cold weather we've had on the East Coast will also be complaining next month when it is too damn hot!!!
P.S. My lawn has never looked better. ((b)) |
Look at the bright side, you don't have to worry about over exposure to the sun and slathering on sunscreen. No need to worry about trying on bathing suits and the humidity and moisture in the air is great for your skin.
Budman-My lawn and flowers look great too. :-) |
Yeah, but what am I going to do about those gill-like appendages that are sprouting on our necks? They say we adapt to our environment, remember Waterworld?
|
nina, I know exactly what you mean :)
Today was not bad, overcast but warmi-ish and we were able to walk all over the West Side of Manhattan without an umbrella or raincoat and actually saw people walking around smiling!! |
How's the apt hunting going Scarlett? Has Pup found anything he likes yet? I always say if a place looks good on a dreary day it's a keeper.
|
Well Sat. it poured and today looks like it just "wants to pour rain/" Last spring I planted flowers to early. I had to replace 3 times due to frosts. Then those dear little deers. This year it is the rain. Whats a girl to do??? We on the East Coast out of 22 weekends 17 of those had rain. I am really becoming scared. Very scared. Is this going to be our summer as well. Oh please say it isn't so!!
|
Here i am in Texas just south of Houston and it's over 90 degrees and plenty hot and humid. We need some serious RAIN. IT'S SO DARN DRY! I'd like a little of Seattles rain please.
|
Claire,
I hear you. The rain gods have blessed us with half an inch of rain in western Nebraska this week and we're practically giddy with the excitement of it all. Actually got a little cocky last night and complained to my husband that we hadn't seen the sun in 4 days. This is the first year in three that borrow pits along the roads are green and we can expect our flowers to bloom without watering constantly. Be careful what you wish for, easterners :-) My son got home Friday from his eighth grade trip to Washington D.C. and reported that everyone was forced to wear their rain ponchos most of the time while sightseeing. Even though rain ponchos are so-not-cool when you're 14, I think he was glad to have it! |
Here in Phila, worst spring ever!!! Local Weather reported only ONE day of sun for the entire month of May!! June has not been any better. I went to pick strawberries from my garden, and found they were actually covered in mold!
I am a summer/sun person after one of the worst winters ever here, this really blows. At least I was lucky enough to have spent a week in Vegas last month, Ahh Vegas bright blinding beautiful sun every day. If only I could get out of this dingy gray office and head for the airport!! |
Yes, I remember Summer. When I start to forget, I look at all those photographs we took during the days when the planet still had summer. I am starting to forget heat and humidity though. Maybe Las Vegas is a good idea. |
Here in NC, we had four years of sunny, sunny springs and summers, some of which were unusually cool. By this time last year, we were on major water restrictions and at its worst, our town had less than 70 days' water reserve. There were a couple of towns that went all the way dry. This year, we're all growing mildew from all the unending rains but I rejoice at the leafiness of the trees and bushes, and the fact that the water coming through my faucet doesn't taste of topsoil and sulfur. I do, however, object to the squadrons of mosquitoes.

Watching the Belmont Saturday, they were saying it had rained 28 out of the past 31 days. REALLY??? I knew it was bad, but not that bad.
|
OO-We have had the same weather pattern here in the Midwest. Weekends have been lousy. Good thing I invested in some Line7 rain gear. Complaining about it is a waste of time and pointless IMO. My favorite saying is "Every day above ground is a good day." Rain or not. Too bad about the Belmont. I think Funny Cide might have won if the track had not been so sloppy. :-)
|
I live in Buffalo. 'Nuff said.
|
Yes Olive, really! and if it's not raining, it's overcast. I've lived in CT most of my life and I don't ever remember weather this dreary for such a long stretch. Rumor has it that we might see sun tomorrow (not for the rest of the week though).
Even my husband, who never minds the weather, is starting to get PO'd. Everyone is in a bad mood. It stinks! |
May I amend this thread title slightly to sub the word "travel" for summer?
Folks, get on your rain gear and get out of the house and enjoy a breath of fresh air. Posting all weekend, night and day, is that healthy? The site needs you. So, get some relaxation, and you'll return to posting refreshed. And try "L'Auberge Espagnole" if your interest runs to films. |
That's just unbelievably bad, even for New England! Was talking to my brother who lives in Mystic. They were so depressed over the harsh winter and now this...are thinking of getting out of Dodge altogether next winter...and there is someone who loves change of seasons.
After living in Dallas with all its sunshine, the number of overcast days was the one thing that stood out for me returning to NE visiting my family. I'd forgotten how often there were long stretches of cloudy, grey, drizzly (or even no rain, just clouds) days. Now...this isn't meant to be snotty at all, in no way shape of form one upmanship in the weather department, but when it is sunny every day it is WONDERFUL to have a cloudy, rainy, curl up-at-home with a book kind of day! We are having a thunderstorm at the moment and I couldn't be happier! :) But then...I know the sun will be out this afternoon, too. It was a shame about Funny Cide. We were all pulling for him, for sure, and for their unlikely owners group. Too bad their high school didn't have more attractive school colors, though! I thought it was fortunate none of the horses fell, it looked so bad. What a mess. And didn't you feel terrible for Jose Santos' son!! The agony of defeat...as seen through the eyes of an 8 (?) year old. What a picture that wail was. :( |
Well, New Englanders, how about today?! :) Took the opportunity of a bright, warm day to ride out to Newcastle to check out the "new" Wentworth By-the-Sea. Wow! What a lot of work they've done - and are still doing. Tried to walk into the dining room for a 1:pm lunch, but was told there would be a half hour wait. It was a smallish room with a beautiful rotunda, and light and airy feel. The joint was jumping, and a Puma conference was in full swing. Nice looking buffet was set up for them. (I was tempted to ask some skinny kid with two carrot sticks for her portion!) A couple families were enjoying a nice looking outdoor pool that overlooks the marina. Indoor pool looked lovely, and the spa seems to be in full operation. Couldn't get near a swamped front desk, so I figured it wasn't a good time to ask to see a room. Construction of the back veranda continues, as does condo-style suite units along the lower waterfront. I understand Marriott will soon be opening the marina restaurant, as well. So I'll have to try again!

OMG!! :O
What a wonderful day! sun, warm, breezes blowing! Am I really still in NY? Let's just hope this is a trend and we don't wake up to 45 degrees and rain tomorrow.. |
Yippee skippy! I'm just back inside but was out ALL DAY. You can't see me, but I'm doing the happy dance!!!!
|
Forecast for tomorrow 79 but thunderstorms in the afternoon.
|
mclaurie!
I just saw your question here :) The apt hunt is going slowly, thanks to lousy weather and a young house guest. But we are selling a home so that sort of slows things down too. I am narrowing down my choices of neighborhoods. But to tell the truth, I cannot wait to start decorating and getting settled in a new place :D Thanks for asking, and Pup ((&)) thanks you too! He is looking forward to more quality time with the pups at the dog run at the Nat History Museum and the boys at Riverside Park ~ |
